How much do schools spend on “enhanced” recruiting?

Sorry, I'm way too cheap to be a bagman. Someday, maybe, I'll feel rich enough to buy season tickets, but that's just because I dare to dream.

If I had the money I would start up OriginalGatorHater moving company. I would not associate at all with the school and hire all the 5 star recruits parents that Miami recruits as 1 year temp employees with a 150k a year salary. Obviously they would only need to show up to work when we had something to move and my advertising team is awful so we never actually have any customers.

The bag game is so much more than just "bags". We're talking cars, clothes, housing for family, fake six figure jobs for parents, athletic scholarships for siblings who may or may not even play sports, free dinners and drinks, and a lot more. EVERY school has someone dropping "bags" at one level or another. Some just do it at an elite level while others save special treatment for only certain elite players.

Just thinking...if top recruits are now earning 200-250K from bagmen to sign with a school, what is the collective enhanced recruiting budget for a school like LSU or other suspected outside the box programs? Are we talking about a “payroll” that’s in excess of $10M annually? Or is it even higher?

Obviously there are no official numbers, but curious what the speculation is.

Schools don't spend it.

Boosters do. Shoe companies do.

There are layers of insulation and "plausible deniability". No school has a "budget" for this. It's illegal and a halfway-decent internal audit staff would catch it (and I am not arguing that Nike or Adidas have good IA staffs).

The moment we justify this because "every other school does it" is the moment we get sanctioned again.

I guarantee you will never find Nick Saban's signature on a check to a recruit. Instead of bribing and paying for banners, donate to the program.

Yes, and he of course gets to pretend that he has no idea what's going on.

That is what the black budget is for.

They have Foundations that execute the payments. They hire economically challenged individuals to deliver the cash. They rarely lose a "bag". The "bagmen" are highly vetted.

Georgia paid Michel $200,000 in cash, but they also got his family a house, a job for his father and a car (maybe 2). All recruits receive something. My guess would be $2M per annum is available at Georgia, Bama, LSU and Arkansas. Tennessee cannot pay as much. FSU pays less than Georgia and Bama but more than LSU.

Payments are untraceable unless IRS or FBI "step in".

My wife's godfather is on the periphery of the Razorback foundation. The Hunts, Waltons and Tyson run that one like a Fortune 500. They raised $150M to renovate the stadium, but kept ~$15M in a slush fund in order to fund recruiting. Petrino and Bieleme (sic) crushed the Razorbacks. They had a top-4 team and substantial "recruiting cash" available when the President fired Petrino. They missed on Bieleme or they could have taken that program to the next level. I was told that Arkansas bags are down by half since they spent all of the excess stadium capital. (The $15M in excess cash was supposed to last 5 to 7 years. They got two top Dade kids according to the Godfather.)

It’s already been said numerous times but yes we know exactly what the school budget is for bags. Any school. It’s exactly zero.

As far as people asking on a fan site message board, “how do I become a bagman?”

Please don’t become a bag man.

If that’s your level of awareness (and expertise), that you think you become a bag man by getting a how-to on a public forum, then you’re going to get us in trouble for the few hundred dollars that you’d be giving out anyway.

Do us all a favor. Just stay home and watch the games, contribute to the Hurricane Club, buy the T-shirts, and be a fan. We don’t need any more probation.
This reminds me of a time when a small town police dept.in Oklahoma sent out fliers saying they would test whatever drug you had for free to see how pure it was.a couple dumba$$e$$ took them up on it.same people tried to sell a cop in uniform coccaine.true story .

how do i become a bagman for the U? surely someone knows lmk
Step one: have a boatload of cash.

Step two: be willing to give said cash to 17 year old kids, parents and handlers.

Strep three: never got pass Two. Daddy taught me that money was to get women over the age of 18, not 17 year old boys.
