How many years will Richt coach at Miami?

Simple question... how long do you think Mark Richt stays at Miami and why?

Personally, and hopefully I'm not being overly optimistic or delusional, but I'm hoping he stays for 12-15 years and keep us in the top 10 consistently.
He doesn't strike me as a guy who would leave for the NFL. I hope he stays until he retires.

UM hasn't really had a long tenured coach before, (like a Bowden, Beamer, Stoops, Ferentz type guy) so why couldn't it be Richt?

None of those guys would have lasted here. For Mark to go 12 here, he needs to win at least 2 NCs while making playoffs 5 or 6 times. If he goes 3 or 4 years without one or the other, he will be in trouble. This is Miami. We don't look at greatness and want it; know what greatness taste like and will settle for nothing less more off it. Right now he is compared to horrible coaching of the last decade plus. If he loses to FSU a couple years, he look more like a coach who got fired from his last job and not a huge relief from the crap we had.

Just ROTFLMAO at this. Playoffs 5-6 times in 12 years? Only Saban could do that and that's because it is Bama which is the college football equivalent of Kentucky Basketball . If he makes the playoffs once every 3-4 years and wins a title here he will have been one of the top 5 coaches in that time. If I was a betting man I would say it he makes the playoffs 4 times and wins it once while here while keeping us in the top 10 7-8 of his 12 years. When we aren't top 10 we are always top 20. Also I think he stays around 15 years.

I've gained some respect for Georgia fans recently but it definitely will be funny when they attempt to reach out to Richt in about 3 years.
My Georgia alumni friend is furious. His point is that Mark Richt is the only successful coach Ga. Has had since Vince Dooley. He asked me for Miami sites.

I am not talking about what Mark will or will not do here. Our fans get nasty quick and that is the crucial fact. It is not a question of what you or I think; it is the fan base. If Mark gets us to the playoffs twice and wins one NC in his 1st 5 years, we will be happy and he gets slack for a couple years. Come year 8 he will need to get us another fix with a playoff slot again. If he wins the NC, then we will smile for another 3 or 4 and you get to 12. If he misses that NC, he will need to get a fourth playoff to keep us happy for him to make 12.

If this was back when I sat in the OB for the Flop, any coach winning 8 game a year would get many years, but it is not. There is no going back to that being enough. We are spoiled and like it that way.

Fellow Fans,

Let's temper expectations.

HC Richt will be in the lead for at least 1 season. If he is here 3-5, barring some medical or life calamity, that isn't a good sign. 5-10 likely indicates some success as a program, 10+ would mean dramatic success.

Now, what does "sucess" mean? True competitiveness in ACC or "NC or bust" year after year?

In today's landscape, Saban's run is an anamoly (albeit a nice one). Its likely Saban can't sustain it for much longer, if at all. There is only so much "program money" can take you before you quickly get diminishing returns (Oregon and Texas would be NC bound every year if money was a huge comepetitive advantage). Saban's (and Meyer's) success actually makes it harder for them to continue. Constant staff losses and copycats will see to that.

So again, what is "success" for HC Richt? I would offer UGA type numbers with a few CFP appearances.

Andy Gustafson laughs at this!

When most hurricane fans say things like that, they mean since they started following the team. But, yeah, Gus was Miami football when I started following the team.

Very true, but I like bringing up pre-Schnellengerger Miami football history since it's actually fairly rich and extremely underrated. Until Howard got here, we actually had a fascinating and interesting history.
