Why is this thread even a thing?
Also...you realize the 2001 team is better than the 2000 team who went 11-1 with a loss to #3 Washington? they should've been in the NC over FSU that year. Butch Davis was the coach

Who is Paul Davis?

He is also known as Butch Da Gawd, the guy who built the greatest college football team of all time. Miami would have 7 NC's instead of 5 but Da Gawd was robbed of one in 00 and the old fart that coached his team in 02 was also robbed.

While we should have been in over FSU, Washington should have been in over us that year. Butch did not have that team ready for the Washington game.

Washington lost to either Oregon or Oregon st in November that year and whoever it was wasn't in the top 10 I believe. Stop with the BE. We lost in Sept and the beat the #1 &2 teams in the country. I don't understand the But h hate around here. Oh yeah and it would have been 0 loses for the season with But h still funning the show.

Go Canes!

Butch would've never lost a game if he would've stayed here. We'd have 16 straight national titles and Nick Saban would be a hobo roaming around Key West.

The Butch hate came from five years of middling along as Big East also-rans.

Why would Washington be in over us?

-SoS played 3 teams who were Top 6 material that year..Washington was ranked #4 during bowl selection time, FSU was already ranked #3 before beating UF, VT was ranked #6 during bowl selection time. Washington also played 3 teams. (We were #2 , Oregon was tied at #7 , Oregon State was #5 ). Bottom line is, we both played 3 Top 10 opponents, our wins were better than theirs (and FSU's). We loss to a team with 1 loss, they loss to a team with 2 losses.
-We were the #2 team in the nation for the last 4 weeks...They could justify keeping us at #2 over justifying a jump (for Washington) from #6 to #2 .
-Defense- Only 2 teams scored over 24 points on us...Washington and Louisiana Tech (Who had a NFL QB btw)...Washington allowed 5 opponents to score 28+
-5 opponents scored 10 or less on us. Washington only held 1 opponent under 10 points
-Offense- We put up 40+ points 6 times that year, including 3 times scoring over 50. Washington scored over 40 twice.
-Big East that year had 5 teams over .500, Pac-10 had 3 teams over .500 (2 teams at .500).

A question that is far more relevant to present matters is how many losses would the 01 Canes have if Richt was calling plays.

I bet at least one.

He would have choked away at least one game just like he did in 2000 with an equally and perhaps even more powerful roster. He almost certainly would have panicked away the BC game and/or VT game.
