How is Miami so dominant in the NIL game?

actually that is incorrect:

Based on U.S. Census Bureau data, these areas and zip codes have the highest concentrations of residents with highest annual earnings:

06883 (Weston, CT): Often cited as having a median household income exceeding $250,000.

94027 (Atherton, CA): Overlaps as both a real estate and income leader with a median household income over $250,000.

60043 (Kenilworth, IL): A Chicago suburb that consistently ranks near the top for median household income.

10007 (Lower Manhattan, NY): One of the highest-income areas in New York City, particularly around the Tribeca neighborhood.

My apologies. It's Gables Estates in Coral Gables.

larger than Los Angeles!?

Dallas is the 6th largest metro area in the United States.

are you implying that the size of south florida with so many businesses -means there are more businesses to participate in NIL?

DMONEY are there any metrics as to how many individual companies participate in the NIL?

compared to Tuscaloosa and Athens for example

Gotta take several things into account.

LA obviously far bigger market. But I would bet a smaller percentage of LA residents root for USC than percentage of Dade county residents root for Miami. There's also a second school there to divide the pot in UCLA. And those schools have gobs of money and if they were run better could run trains on the Big 10.

SMU has Dallas but again, I would guess the vast majority of people in that market root for teams other than SMU. Also, SMU is a nothing brand nationally. Think BC or Northwestern.

Big boosters, amazing alumni, a very large fan base spread around the country. One of the biggest brands in college football.

A coaching staff that has shown they can put talent in the NFL and the more success that we continue to have, the better this will get
With a lot of these young men, it's about getting recognition, and upping their draft status. Miami isn't just outbidding everyone, but rather out positioning everyone. There isn't a better situation to land in than at Miami right now.

But most importantly…

Miami is one of the wealthiest cities in the U.S. Coral Gables is the richest neighborhood in the U.S. Of course that doesn't account for all of UM's NIL success but it gives you a snapshot of the money around the football program.

the miami fll wpb MSA is top 5-6, but miami per se (especially the city of miami) is not wealth. coral gables, on the other hand, is one of the wealthiest areas.

UCLA alums aren't really into football.

USC alums are into football but I believe USC has the wrong head coach. USC supporters bought Lincoln a #1 high school class with his most recent high school class but investing heavily in high school recruiting doesn't produce immediate fruit.

SMU's brand is on par with TCU and Texas Tech. All three have made playoff appearances. I'd say SMU is a top 15 program in the nation. So, brand-wise they are punching way higher than BC or Northwestern.

We all take it for granted that somehow a PRIVATE UNIVERSITY with 14,000 students -

has more money to spend on NIL than a PUBLIC STATE UNIVERSITY with 42,000 students a year.

how is this even possible?!?!
MARIO

He knows the game from the SEC he brought that over to UM. When he said "I know how it looks" I knew right there we were about to body cfb but it would take awhile. He has actually done it faster than I expected. I said by the time we play UF the second go around we would be competing for natty's. It is written on this very site, still could not believe he made a run when it happened. Still feel like this is all a dream.

He knows the crabby patty secret formula. It's why Saban always raves about UM and Mario.

I don't know much, I'm a random fan who listens to a bunch of Cane's podcasts. But I do recall when Miami hired Mario there was a podcast with OBB I believe where Rudy Fernandez said something along the lines "in order for this investment to be worth it, we expect Mario to have us competing for the playoffs in the next 3-5 years"

Well after year 4 we just played for the Natty. I think there is a combination of things, Uhealth of course brings lots of money, I am sure there is MULTIPLE high net worth donors (we are MIAMI afterall...), but ultimately the administration is seeing some return on their investment. This season alone brought in big $$$ for each playoff win. Add in that we have a president now who understands the importance of sports being good. Mario is not going anywhere. I would say we are in good hands for the next decade

I have another theory. Ole Miss kicked off their NIL efforts b/c they stopped a stadium refurbishment effort and directed those funds to NIL once NIL became law. Ole Miss doesn't have a large stadium by SEC standards (c. 65K seats). Could it be that Miami b/c they don't have the high overhead of maintaining a behemoth stadium is also better situated to take advantage of NIL?
