How is Blake Baker viewed among the players?

Jarren Williams spotted 21 points to VT but the last drive when we completed the comeback pissed me off beyond belief and UF had a very short field due to Thomas muffed punt and even tho the first td scored by Florida was **** tackling, special teams also allowed the fake punt.
Let’s not forget Perry having 4 shots agaiskt VT inside the 5

Machete: The 2019 defense lost Redwine, Jaquan, Willis, Joe Jackson, and Mike Jackson. That's a *hit ton of talent. Those were likely the 5 best defensive players on the 2018 team. All gone. Red and Jaquan were absolute studs in the secondary. Both were QBs of the secondary. Gerald was arguably the best interior defender we've had in years. (You saw in the Wisconsin game what happened w/out him.) Joe was our leading sack guy. Mike was our best corner.

We lost all that talent and this defense was no worse than a top 25 defense, and likely better.

I don't think Blake is untouchable, but you're being way too tough on the guy. We'll find out a lot this year. There is plenty of returning talent. If you see some guys take the next step this year, that means he's doing his job.

Edit: Also, consider Manny's decision to RS McCloud. Ragone has heart but under normal circumstances, the kid doesn't see the field. Ragone was repeatedly attacked by VT.
We were a top 40 defense. If you go look at the stat adjustments based on SOC, we were mediocre AF. If you just watch the game, you can see we were mediocre AF.

I said undefeated. As in we would have won every game we played in 2019. I can't honestly say that a decent offense would have helped us win games we didn't play. I was strictly referring to the games we actually played. They had a sloppy first quarter against UNC but a decent offense wins that game. Hell, a kicker who can make chip shot field goals wins that game even with the garbage offense. Probably could have been better against FIU too but your're talking about a defense surrendering 290 yards of offense. That 30 points is misleading, mostly due to Miami turning the ball over 3 times in their own territory. Once again a capable offense wins that one easily. The defense played well enough to win every game in 2019 except Louisville. They gave up a ton of yardage and points to the Cardinals but surprisingly nobody brings up that performance because the offense actually carried the team that day.

What are Miami standards? Are we comparing the 2019 defense to some of college football's all time best defenses that were loaded with All Americans and 1st round draft picks? Then, no they weren't that good. Were they better than a majority of college footballs' defenses in 2019? Yeah, i think so. Very good, not great.
The standard is the fugging STANDARD!!! Championship Miami is the standard. That doesn’t get adjusted because Baker was hired away from Louisiana Tech!

30 points to FIU isn’t misleading. That’s what a Baker defense looks like. He has to get his **** together. That’s disgraceful.

In 2019 - Miami’s defense was the FIU game. Can’t get off the field on 3rd/4th. Can’t get stops in the 4th. Playing soft against inferior teams. The defense didn’t play well enough to win every game. UNC is an easy counter to that claim. If you claim otherwise, you’re just sticking your head in the sand. Defense started shitty and finished shitty.

4&17.

If there wasn’t a problem with the defense, why in the fugg did Manny himself say there was - and he was getting involved? Come on, man.

No game did the defense single handily loseus the game save VT

The offense was disgustingly horrific and cost us every single game this year, hell the first half of VT might have been the worst offensive performance I’ve seen in recent times
Defense lost the UNC game, dude. We took the lead. 4&17. Then allowed them to score. What the hell are you guys watching? THE DEFENSE single handily lost the UNC game.

Duke should only score 27 against our JV team. It’s fucking Duke. Do you Temple fans hear me? It’s Duke. They’ve had like 4.6 people drafted in 20 years. We should be able to beat Duke 2 to NADA if we have to. It’s DUKE.

FIU? See above.

VT. Offense put up 35 after totally shifting the bed. Defense then allowed a 49 yard play on the first snap after tying the game, and later a walk in TD.

UNC had 20 points with 5 mins left in the game but go and blame the offense of not being able to drop 30 on UNC with ample opportunities

Duke had 13 points going into the 4th, we should have had scored min 21-28 and game is over

Once again FIU had 13 at half, game should have been over by then

How about you argue those points instead of going off in a tangent

You’re making the dumbest fugging arguments ever. How about you figure out that football is played for 4 quarters. You trying to deflect blame from the 4&17 Baker Special pretty much sums it up.

Our fans are going to run away a really good young up and coming DC. Baker isn't the problem. Last year our defense played with 3 new starters in the Secondary. Our 2 stud LBs regressed and Robert Knowles started half the season. Year 2 under Baker will be much better.

This is a dumbass argument...you can use this same argument for our opponents if you were of fan of those teams. Both teams played all 4 quarters, both teams had trouble scoring, and both teams defensive were able to stop each others offense, but only one team was able to buckle down on defense to pull a win and it wasn't UM.

Everyone who throw those stats out (the Defense only played 3 Offense’s in the top 50) fail to realize that our Defense wouldn’t miss a beat if Baker were to leave. The D’s success is a reflection on Diaz’s foundation and weak schedule, not Bakers. Just look how the D improved once Diaz took over.

“Football is played for 4 quarters”

You then proceed to focus on one fucking play in the entire game

Great logic!!!!!!

Once again Our offense missed multiple opportunities

Our kicker missed a 24 yard FG and missed an extra point which forces us to go for two on top of missing a FG to tie the game when the offense had 30 seconds and 3 tries to gain another 10-20 yards

But no it’s the defenses fault!!!!

4th and 17 was just one play out of like 900 on the season... It was a bad call but it's just one mistake. You shouldn't judge a DC based off one play.. The FIU game was bad but that wasn't due to play calling. It was due to a lack of effort and Offensive struggles

No, I can remember each moment because we have folks on this board trying to say that the defense never let us down. That simply isn’t true.

I understand what you’re saying. But NOTHING about the FIU, VT, or UNC game even remotely whispers “perfect” in regards to the 2019 defense. The defense basically started the UNC game with their entire heads up their asses until we were down by three scores(?)

Our defense started shitty and finished shitty in that game. Gave up the win. That’s the truth. We didn’t need them to be perfect. We needed them to be awake and competent.

VT. JW was awful. Play-calling was awful. VT ran our routes for us. Our tendencies were glaring! With that said, what proceeded to happen after the turnover(s) with us leaving their tight end wide open for touchdowns was just pathetic. After we tied the game, the last thing I wanted to see is a Miami defense give up a 49 yard play on the first snap.

We gave a 30+ points to FIU and didn’t record a single sack. It’s FIU. SERIOUSLY.

I believe you guys are being fooled by the stats. LT, FIU, CMU, Bethune, FSU, GT... that’s what attributed to the stats. The bottom line is when it mattered most we couldn’t get a stop against several of the teams we lost to.
What was wrong with the play calling? What coverages and formations did you not like?

If you can only see 4th and 17th, you are never going to be open to any further discussion.

You'll never see the dozens of drives that defense made stops when the stakes were just as high, because you choose not to. Or the impossible field position it was constantly in because of offensive ineptitude or turnovers where the other team was held to 3 points or zero.

The mindset that we had the lead and gave it up is such absurd tunnel vision it's laughable. Literally every very single time we'd step on the field defensively we'd be in that same position, give up a score and we'd most assuredly lose.
