How good is UF's defense?

We know UF's offense is a disaster mostly due to Lagway and their "preseason top 3" OL. But I can't decide if UF has a good defense.

I've seen Sapp flash then disappear. I've seen some life out of the LBs. And looking at point totals from the back half of last season through 3 games this season, they've held everyone but UTX (last season) to under 20 points a game. This season so far, USF had only 18 points and LSU scored only 13 points despite the UF offense turning the ball over 5 times, not counting LSU's pick-6 on Lagway since their defense couldn't do anything about that.

On the other, they had only 1 sack, 3 TFL and 0 turnovers vs USF and 0 sacks (not even a QB pressure), 3 TFLs and 1 Int (0 fumble recoveries) vs. LSU.. And USF generated quite a bit of offense with 391 Total Yards.

So are they a fraud that will be exposed come Saturday night? Or are they a legit defense that can force the Dawson Express to take the local route?

I’m trying really hard to not believe that LSU scks on offense.

The lsu qb played hurt with a rib injury it sounds. That can really mess with a QBs delivery and also get them into a shell to protect themselves

They have zero DL depth. It seems their secondary has a ton of speed though. LB position also seems to be middle of the road solid. Holding LSU to 10 first downs at home is genuinely impressive regardless of how average Nuss has looked this year.

5 in the LB group can run. He ran down the lsu slot. I just see good athletes but bad team.
 
After a pretty bad start to the season last year, they played well in the 1st half of a lot of the big time games they were in.

2024:
Tennessee: 3-0 UF at halftime
UGA: 13-6 UF at halftime
LSU: 10-10 at halftime
Ole Miss: 14-14 at halftime

2025:
USF: 9-6 UF at halftime
LSU: 10-13 LSU at halftime

The defense is the most consistent part of the team but they're also wildly inconsistent at times. People keep giving me s*** for saying Miami needs to be prepared but that's obviously aimed at the people on this site. Because if the game is 14-7 at halftime the gameday board is going to be melting down. I wouldn't bet on the game being close but it would not surprise me. I also think the UF defense is not as good in the 2nd half of games so Miami could pull away. It could be 17-7 at halftime and 41-10 for a final.

They have a pretty good defense. I don't think it's as good as Notre Dame's. Their lack of leadership, immaturity, and Billy being on the seat will prevent them from reaching any potential they may have.

The low point total and TDs allowed are due to opponents that they have played are bad on offense inflating how "good" their defense is.

Keep them from gathering momentum, punch them in the mouth, and they'll let up points. There offense's inability to score will further demoralize them.

Let’s do what we do, score early and often. Force them to throw to keep up, wreck their OL, contain QB, take their souls. Hopefully if Lagway throws some int’s, it will just add to their agony. Their curse of the “ Gator Flop” cannot be forgotten and must always be avenged when we play. For those bros not steeped in Canes folklore, google it mfer’s.
