How good are our safeties (2027)?

I follow our recruiting pretty closely, and it's obvious we've put together an elite defensive haul at linebacker, corner, and defensive line based on the buzz, rankings, highlights, and measurables. For those who know the position well, how good are our safety commits? I can't really evaluate safety film at a high level, and since they're ranked a bit lower and don't seem to have the same freakish measurables as the rest of the class, I'm curious what people who know more think.


Edit: if anyone has good player comparisons (former or current college/NFL players), I'd appreciate it. Those always give me a better feel for what kind of players these commits are.

If you don’t think Andre Hippolyte is elite, and has freakish measurable, then I don’t know really what more I can tell you. Smh

Im not saying theyre not elite. Im saying Im not knowledgable to know and haven't heard much about them. I'm not trashing the kids just asking a question lmao. Also I forgot about him, I meant this for Jones and Gourdine. Would love to hear an insiders opinion.

Andrea Hippolyte is the guy we wanted, he was our number one choice at safety and we got it. You can pretty much guarantee if it’s Mario‘s number one choice, the kid has elite athleticism, and measurable. All things Hyppolite has.

And J Jones is a stud also. Gourdine is considered a nickel so not sure if he's in S or CB room.

Our Secondary haul as a whole is excellent. Night and day from what we were getting until recently.

There ain’t no two ways about it Mario and the staff are on a different level this year. Recruiting at its finest right there.

I’ve lived in Florida my entire life and I have never heard of Ruskin, FL nor Lennard HS, so I don’t know what kind of competition he sees daily, but Mekhi Williams looks really good as a prospect to me on the film I’ve seen.

That being said, I agree with you. Hyppolite is a multi year starter and Jones has some Quan Johnson in his game when I watch him. Macho he’s probably a little bit bigger than Quan too? Really instinctual kid who looks comfortable playing center field and attacking the LOS.

Ruskin is the suburbs of Tampa and Lennard plays in the same division as Sumner (Riverview) which has put out some talent of late.

Mekhi isn't even in the same stratosphere brother.

IMO his entire tape is basically optimist ball Safety play. Stay deep, go get the football if it's in the air. He doesn't show physicality at the point-of-attack, there's not a single play of him filling the alley, he's not a hitter, his footwork is sloppy and many of the INT's he showed were simply a result of poor QB play.

When looking at a Safety's tape, you have to translate what you see on tape TO WHAT MIAMI DOES (asks of their Safeties). Don't just look at highlights that involve the ball. (i.e. INT's) He might turn out to be good, but nothing about his tape automatically leads me to believe that.

Jaylyn's tape is the #1 tape on Miami's board. He's also the #1 Safety on many OOS program's boards. He's regarded as a kid who can legitimately play every spot in the secondary.

I don't think most people realize what we're getting in Jones. The recruiting battles (behind the scenes, in our office, on our field) from other elite programs were intense. Those 4 lil' stars next to his name are not his actual market value.

And Andre Hyp is right behind Jones. He shows many of the same traits. Physicality, range, length, etc.
