How Does UM Attack 2027 Portal Season?

I think we have all loved how UM has utilized the portal in the past. We continually have seen quality players added to improve the roster.

But with last years deep playoff run and hopefully another this year, along with the '27 portal window being right in the middle of playoff games, I'm sure UM will have to alter its approach on how to evaluate for want, need, mitigate player loss, etc while using the portal.

I do know teams playing in bowl games and/or playoff games get an extra 5 days, after their last game, to accept portal players. Will most quality portal players be gone? Will most of those bowl /CFB playoff teams even know what they need?

I'd love to hear what you guys think on how we'll do that, given the anticipated playoff run and the portal window being right in the middle of playoff games.

(CFB playoff dates: 1st rd. games are 12/18/2026 and 12/19/2026 with final championship game on 1/25/2027)

Yeah I hope they learned and have the team ready to balance that to get quicker visits. We will have gaps that need addressing but honestly with this HS class I wonder what the portal budget is because this class is going to be expensive af lol

Agreed. I think time will be of the essence. We'll have to act quickly.

And agreed again. The past few HS classes have put us in a better spot not to seemingly rely so much on bringing in portals. But if we're ready-made for a '27 championship run, bringing in another vet QB could be smart.

So, if I understand you correctly, current UM players on the roster have the potential to portal out for only 5 days after UM's last game. Is that correct?

Wouldn't that also mean that UM can only portal in players for only 5 days? (Because we have a set roster during the season of play)

No portal is open on dates you stated, they can go AWOL like the simpson kid did last year during playoff run. Also the portal is just putting your name IN, you can still visit and such after but usually top players are snatched prior. For most teams not in playoffs they can focus all attention on retention and acquiring. If you are lucky enough to make it to championship game you are rewarded with an additional 5 days post last game where every team in america can try to convince your players to enter portal.. It doesnt affect the team to get portal players other than your team depth miight see you recruiting over them and you have to pay to stay for playoffs (mendoza family being ****ed indiana went after Hoover basically saying they didnt believe in baby bro, Cignetti said tough convo but cant be scared, some chose otherwise)

We can try to sign portal players available anytime like most teams. Indiana had many visits on championship run and Mario said he chose to tighten down to focus and not create confusion in roster with visits. Its up to you to chose, Indiana was still able to operate even with portal open closed. Hope that clears up..
