How does UM approach Cristobal or any of the HC names on its list?

For those in the know, is this something that is done through back channels first in order to gauge interest before a formal package is put together by the board; or do they just contact his agent directly. I mean, is there an open line of communication with UM? Mario and Oregon have to know he is UM’s number one target so I would think Oregon is working on something to keep him. What would be the optimal time to formally offer Mario; during or after the season?
