How does Richt and staff overcome South Florida complexity?

When it comes to recruiting?

I understand winning helps a lot, but I am not convinced that is all that is needed. I look at Jimbos first couple of years of losing 4 games meanwhile racking in top 10 ten classes. Kiffin get fired and Sark is able to pull together a #1 rated class, then Helton as a interim pulls in a top #1 5 class with only 20 commits.

Asking the experts (@PeterAriz DMoney Tweed), what does Richt need to do to hold down local kids?

Easy. You get to the kids when they are playing Pop Warner and sell them on the program. You'll lose some to bag men, but will have moms and dads wanting kids to play near home. No one liked Al Golden. Can you imagine being an eight grader from the Pork N Beans and have cheesey Al Golden with his used car tie trying to sell the program. Richt knows how to groom Baby Canes

it takes coaches a few years to make connections, that said richt has them from Georgia days but its hard to make up ground in a yr when bama has been on jeudy for 5 yrs now. golden didn't even sniff the kid. that's just bad coaching. recruiting is where u win games in the end. the top programs almost always are loaded with 4 and 5 star players,

the fact is all he can get is time. he has better shot in 17 then in 15 and better shot in 18 then 17 just because him and his staff will have been on these kids for 2-3 yrs at least, jeudy loss is on golden, richt and company did everything they could it just wasn't enough because canes came to party to late,

that said they are doing well in south florida its just that u are never gonna land all the kids in south florida there are like 50 power 5 players a year here, the key is to get ones u really want and its hard to get a kid like jeudy when bama has been on him for 4 yrs and u are just starting to get in the race , Miami and the staff will land more and more of the kids like jeudy just being on them earlier now and creating that relationship with the kids and there families,

richt is doing better then Shannon or golden did in south florida already and he is only a yr on the job. imagine what happens in 3-4 years when all the top names will have had Miami coaches on them for 3-4 yrs more and more will sign with canes.

By all accounts amari Cooper wanted to be a hurricane but Al golden forked it up. Really broke open the flood gates for Bama. Most fans can't (or refuse to) understand how much one bad coach can set a program back.

Lol. Juedy wasn't coming even if CMR was the coach for the last 5

It's very simple...

In the streets you gotta pay like you weigh & to some of the Elite prospects, we looking kinda thin out here.
Exactly

It takes years to lay the ground work. This is the best coaching staff the U has had in the Last 15 years.
Amari cooper was never coming here, it was all about money.

I don't know but they need to do something. I'm somewhat confident Richt knows how to play the game.

We need a mafia down here that doesn't put up with outsiders trying to poach talent.

We need to take care of the hood.

Dallas
Bandy

That is a lot of Miami talent that will win 10 plus per year then the kids like Jeudy will come.

I don't know what the answer is, but I'm not buying these stories about how all the top players wanted to come to Miami but al screwed it up. I don't doubt that al could have screwed it up, but these guys were never interested in Miami. Maybe it's money, or just that they grew up with us sucking, but the top kids aren't taking Miami seriously. Things look better with Richt, but we still aren't viewed as being as serious as bama and osu.

This will be a top 10 class - especially if we land Slaton & Herbert. Had we flipped Jeudy & gotten Holloman or Smith it may have been a top 5 class. Don't trip, Richt is doing very well.

Coker, Shannon, and Golden were all bad game-day coaches who couldn't motivate a stripper to get naked, among their other particularized failings. Kids don't want to play for bad coaches. But Golden was a particularly big fail. Look at 2013 and 2015 in particular: respectively, you had only five of 18 and eight of 22 signees from the Tri-County area. He'd get all these top recruits early on (at least partially as a hedge against getting fired) and then they'd commit elsewhere because of his ineptitude on Saturdays.

If this is the case then shut the program now. TimeBombs approach is more realistic.

Revisionist history. Amari Cooper wanted to be here but Al ****ed momma off by trying to pressure him into an early commitment, or so it was reported at the time.

Don't lecture me about how bad al sucked, I remember vividly.

No true! All the 5 starzz want to play for Miami but al screwed it up. Every one of them was set to sign until al said something wrong. Which totally explains why we aren't reeling in the 5* this year. Money? Pshhh...this is amateur sports here, there's no money involved.

It's not personal, just calling it as I see it. You're not wrong with respect to this generation of kids not knowing firsthand how great we were in our prime, but the fact remains that we've been in decline and Golden poured gas on the fire.
