How does Les Miles not have a job?

The owner of my company is the President of The Board Of Trustees at Purdue. He interviewed Les last year and said “He’s ******* nuts”. Was the least impressive of anyone that he interviewed. This could be a reason.

Why doesn't Bobby Bowden have a job? He won a title too

Lmmfao!! When bobby left coaching, however many yrs ago,..post game interviews..dude couldn't even remember his players names, what they did, when they did it,... ****,.. One game, dude had to look over his shoulder at the scoreboard, just to be able to quote the correct score of the game that just ended!!

But I agree...he would be perfect in gaynesville

You can actually argue that Miles is the Butch Davis of the last 10 years.

LSU owns the league right now. They’ve got pro bowlers and impact players everywhere.

I don’t know much about the bagmen of LSU....but he’s clearly got a good/great eye for talent. Not much of a game day coach...but you can’t deny his resume (from a personnel perspective). LSU, right now, is the closest thing I’ve seen to our 98-05 run (producing quality nfl players....not just breadth, but the quality). Bama to me is very similar to USC in the Carroll days....lots of guys get drafted....but not many make an impact at the next level.

Has SEC titles, SEC West Titles, a National Title. Brought in major recruits. Multiple programs were scrambling to fill their HC position this year. Still no one called Les Miles. I have no loyalty to the guy, but it is an enigma to me. Do people just hate the guy that much? It almost sounds like when Dan Mullen got turned down for our team.

His compensation package is close to 11 million and is probably off set by working another gig... He is set for life!

This.

He was released after being hugely successful at a big time programme, just like Richt. I think that can go two ways - either you're rejuvenated and want a new job straight away. Or you're embittered and fall out of love with the game.

Les probably looks at his bank balance and thinks "I don't need the hassle of spending half the year on the road brown nosing 18 year olds".

I'm not buying the outdated offense argument for why he isn't coaching. Yes. His offenses his final years especially were horrible, but if he wanted to coach he could hire a young and imaginative offensive wiz to run whatever that coach wanted to run.

Miles won almost 80 percent of his games playing in the SEC West - when it meant something to say that. And what SEC team didn't have bagmen? I don't think he wants back into coaching. As some have said, he had a great compensation package, and he's 100 years old or whatever. He hasn't even taken a TV job. Probably spending his time looking for his teeth and chasing his grand kids around.

Problem with not being the offensive mind yourself, is those young offensive coaches get head coaching offers quicker than you can blink.

I would have loved him here over richt at the time. But richt is family and he won't let us down. Les miles has charisma that's what I like about him.

No evidence he can recruit without bag men.

Not totally disagreeing with all of this (I think Miles is OK-at least enough to get an interview at some schools), but one could insert about any coach in the country into the above quote. We all love it, but CFB dirty.

Agreed, but that's a good problem to have because it means your offense was productive and you were probably winning.

It's a good problem to have that year. But maintaining constant success on offense juggling coordinators and losing all the good ones isn't easy. That's why the vast majority of big time coaches are offensive minded ex OCs. Its just easier to juggle the defensive coordinators because more DC's stick around, less get hired as HC's and you don't have QB's to teach

True, but his OC might not leave. And if he does, he'd be recruiting and negotiating with a new OC from a position of strength. What you say is true of almost every program who has a traditional DC and OC who are separate from the HC.

Cause he sucks!!!!

And LSU is still paying him handsomely so he can be content as a tv analyst

Same reason Mack Brown doesn't have a job. Just switch the conference accolades listed by the OP from SEC to Big 12 and it's basically the same resume.

I got my on axe to grind about Mack but he's about to be the UTexas AD.

Says who?

There is fūcking zero chance he gets the Texas AD job.

The powers that be at Texas want him nowhere near the program in other than a ceremonial role.

Where do people come up with this silliness?
