How does Duke stack up with the Cane offensive greats?

I got laughed at earlier this year when I said Duke was in the conversation with the greats. I wish Duke got the opportunity to play with a great team/OL. Special talent, insane vision

IMO, since mid 90s:

Edge
McGahee
Duke
Portis
Gore (would be higher without the knee injury, his FR year, HS was special)
Miller
James Jackson
 
HE's gotta do it against the better teams and defenses and in big games.

I'd put him behind Otis Anderson, Edge, McGahee, Gore, Portis on skill.

RBs need help. He does everything he can, he makes almost every run 2-3 yards more then it should be
 
FWiW, when I said top ten I meant including WRs. Definitely a top five RB. Cannot wait for him to run behind that Jets oline..(Except if he wants to stay a Cane I'm all about that.)

I would like to see him dominate in huge games.

That would set him apart from a guy like portis.
 
I can't out him over edge, Portis, mcgahee.... He is above jj, lamar , and maybe gore.... Only reason I say gore is cause of stats.... Talent wise and pre injury... Gore is over him all day

Duke could be special but I don't think he is there just yet. The thing that has held Duke back is that he hasn't really had a special game against a top tier opponent or even rival. Last year he looked good against FSU til the injury, but even for his stats which are impressive he still doesn't have one signature performance.
 
Once duke goes apes.hit in the NFL, I think we'll all appreciate just how special a talent he is.

He's one of the best players talent wise at any position to come through the U ever.

His production also isn't too bad..............

When Portis played, Miami was better then everyone we played. Portis' most memorable game IMO is at BC in 2001.

Duke can't do it by himself.
 
For those of you who keep saying he hasnt dominated in big games; thats usually because we have gotten owned in the trenches for virtually every "big game" weve played since Duke has arrived. it would be nice if the oline and defense showed up.

Same. Anderson had very special feet and power. The first guy had no chance. Juke and he's gone. Then upon collision he'd get lower and explode into the tackler(s) for extra yards while continuing to churn his feet.

Anderson would have been a legendary collegian if he had played at one of the high profile programs of that '70s era, with the tailback the king of the sport. Instead he was always a whispered great.

I was actually thinking about this all time list on Saturday at the stadium, when Duke Johnson darted 80 yards to open the game. He made it look easy but I could tell it wasn't easy. He had to make two perfect cuts to find that crease. Watching the TV version confirmed it last night.

Duke is right near the top. I'd put him top 3 or 4. He is best ever in terms of the straight arm. Lethal and perfectly timed, like Ali's jab. Golden is correct that Yearby needs to learn to use the straight arm, at least competently.
