How does Duke stack up with the Cane offensive greats?

Seriously, the kid is special. He's played on garbage teams with garbage coaches and dealt with nagging injuries yet he still obtained the all-time all purpose yard record in less than 3/4 of the games Santana Moss played. He'll be close to the number one UM rusher at the end of this year and could come back for another year to easily break and pad the record.

I can only imagine the things he would've done on teams with talented defenses and offensive lines like some of our other greats had. The only knock against him is that he hasn't had a signature monster game against a big opponent (though he was playing very well against FSU last year and had a huge run called back). I think that's largely due to the teams around him not being as strong. With that said, defenses these days generally seem softer than back in the day and we play more cupcakes.

Where do you think he stacks up? I put him in the top ten most talented offensive players in UM history. No QBs allowed, we're talking skill guys here.

Im still of the opinion the OJ Anderson was the best Ive seen even after a string of great RBs since OJ played. He was the ONLY offensive weapon on his otherwise offensively horrible teams with no passing attack to speak of. Every single team knew he was getting the ball and he was still great.

The other greats had terrific supporting casts. Dukes supporting cast is far beyond anything OJ could of imagined. That said, Duke is a top 5 RB for sure.

Got to put Gore and McGahee ahead of him. I did not see OJ Anderson play. After that, I'm not sure.

He's obviously very, very good. I'll hold off judging him until I see what he does in the NFL.

Duke needs that huge break out game against FSU to soldify his greatness. He was pretty good last year against them in till his injury. Hopefully he goes bananas this year. Most likely won't matter tho our defense will give up 40+

I think Duke is the best running back to ever come through here

Best ever? Bruh
He's top 5 ever and that's an amazing in its own right. But you can't sit here and say he's better than Edge, Alonzo, Portis or Mcgahee. But just to be in the conversation is amazing

I agree with Marcello. Dude has the potential to be no.1 in yards for miami when he finish his junior season. Didn't start as a freshman and missed the final 5 games of his sophomore year. On track to have well over a thousand yards rushing this year. Breaking records and still have a
Another year left if he decide to stay. Those guys mentioned were definitely great but I believe Duke will finish as the best

if he stays, he will have all the records. I doubt seriously he stays.

Edge Mcgahee Duke Portis Gore. Won't count OJ. It is a shame Duke hasn't and probably wont have the team success the others had. ( I guess Edge didn't either). None of them stayed for their senior year and I doubt nor should Duke.

Duke was on pace for 2400+ all purpose yards last season as a sophomore, he would have broke the single season all purpose record. He was having a big game against FSU last year before he went down with the injury as well.

He wasn't a full time starter his freshman year till late in the season. Arguably the best freshman runningback season for a Cane as well.

Mind you, Duke last season while he was on pace for 2400+ all purpose yards. Sat out near the end of the FAU game. Rested during savannah state after an injury early in the game. Rested again against USF after an early injury. Could have rushed for 200 if he didn't go down with injury against UNC early in the 1st quarter. Then missed the 4th quarter against FSU after his season ending injury. Duke didn't even really play a full 7 games last season.

This year, he's being underused and he's still averaging 7.1 yards a carry and playing great.

He WILL break the all time rush record this season.

I love Duke but he fumbles too much for me. But other than that he can do it all catch, run inside, outside, block, return kicks/punts & Shows up in big games.

I won't add OJ, Chuck, McGuire, Foreman cause they played in very different times compared to today's game.

I would rate it as of now.

1. Edge
2. McGahee
3. Duke
4. Portis
5. Miller/Gore

* Gore would be higher if it wasn't for blowing out both knees.
* Miller was a stud here but he left way too early.

With a big game against FSU, Duke would really cement himself and his legacy here. A big game against FSU this year I would put him over McGahee. Duke is the best return man of all them too.

I would rate him #1 if he goes ape**** and this staff feeds him the ball 25-30 time like they should and he just has a phenomenal finish to the year.

I also feel the way people are rating is based on nfl careers too.

I'm talking purely on their time here.

Sadly Duke didn't have the teams that McGahee, Portis and Gore were blessed with. Actually Edge and Miller didn't have the greatest of teams.

It's pretty much interchangeable. But I see Duke finishing career wise as either or with Edge for #1.

I'll add. Big mistake by the staff taking Duke off kickoffs. Even last season he almost housed 1 and had 1 called back.

And as a freshman housed 2 and had 1 called back.

BIG mistake taking him off kickoffs.

For the amount their actually using him. They should have kept him on returns. Duke is a very special and dynamic player.
