How do we sign only 3 DTs when there are only 3 on the team?

Everyone on earth understands how much this defensive staff sucks (except for Golden). Do you have any original thoughts?

More excuses. We are rummaging through the JUCO ranks because of the failures of the staff. JUCOs are nothing more than band aids, or white out over a mistake. And they're at JUCO for a reason -- they're ****ed up academically.

Shocking that a lot of them don't make it in. Find some kids that will qualify or don't miss so badly that you're forced to go shopping at the clearance rack.

It's directly the staff's fault.

Kamalu and Chick are D ends. Not even close. We've made Chick fat and slow just to have the depth there.

The rest of these guys can't play a lick. Moore, King, Hamilton. They wouldn't play on any team in the ACC.

Starting true freshman at DT is not going to end well.

Chickillo was not explosive at 245 pounds. The kid needed to put on weight and get stronger. The kid can most definitely play tackle at 290 pounds, which means he have to add about 12 pounds. The kid needs to play inside like his dad. Same type of player, smart with a high motor.

Why can't Kamalu move to the inside?

I think Golden has underestimated how these recruits want nothing to do with this defensive system on the D line. Probably figured he could get 2 or 3 top, highly touted DTs every year to sign no matter what. That is simply not the case.

And so we are left with King, Moore and Hamilton to play next year. Tragic.

The wholesale changes should have begun at the end of the 2012 season. Regardless of how bad or young our talent was, having the worst defense in Miami history should have set alarm bells off in Golden's head that he has to change something. He didn't and failed to land a solid DT in 2013.

He's married to his scheme and firend and its going to cost him his job plain and simple.

I may be in the minority but someone unexpected, that's currently on the roster, will step up at DT. Player development let's go!

Thse players are not as bad as it seems. We have field better defenses without a dominant DT. When was the last time we had a real bad DT that demanded attention on every play?.....wilfork? Our coaches need to coach up the players we have and stop complaining about cloud and who we didn't get. Can they get someone to perform above their rank?.....haven't seen it. The DTs dont like what they are seeing on film. We barely get any tfls and pretty much no sacks. U think we just started competing against SEC money? We used to turn on the film and kids saw NFL money. They saw aggression, they saw destruction they saw swag. What u think they see when we show them film now?

Cam Newton and Nick Marshall say hello.

Let's call out the exception ... Reality is JUCO's can be useful... look at the 2001 team but you cannot rely on them to fill big holes over and over. We have a lot of holes on D and we are not going to fill them all with JUCO's. It is a quick fix to make up for major misses at key positions.

Not sure on Kamalu yet but I completely disagree on Chick. I think he projects best as a 3 technique DT in the NFL.

How do you know Moore/Hamilton wouldn't play elsewhere?

2 players out of how many JUCO players a year? I'd say this is actually helping my point, but both guys already qualified for d1 programs out of high school - UF and UGA - and were only serving time in JUCO for behavioral issues.

Look at our great defenses through the years, many of our DT's did not start out at that position. Many were TE's or DE's.

In recruiting, defensive lineman are usually the most difficult to gauge, especially tackles. It is the one position where often the rankings don't seem to pan out.
I find it humorous when many on here call it a failure when a local player goes somewhere else, or the player is not loyal to the home team.
Number One, no player owes anything to any university, it's not as if the college fed and raised them the first 18 years of their life. Secondly, many students whether they're an athlete or not want to go away for college. I am and have been a die hard canes fan for many a year having grown up in Broward County, and I can tell you that if Miami had offered me an academic scholarship I am sure I would have went away from the area, as I actually did.

Forgive my ignorance but what exactly does it take to be a great DT? I know it can't strictly be size cuz Nikita Whitlock (5'11 250lbs per his ESPN profile) from Wake Forest had a **** of a season. He should have been manhandled by most inside linemen but clearly that didn't happen.

I'm sure he's one of the exceptions but still this is college ball, you see undersized athletes overperform all the time. We most definitely have the size to field at least a few serviceable DT's so what do our current guys need to work on?

Herein lies the issue. Recruiting prep DT's has been abysmal.

From missing out on kids like Bryant and Bostwick, to players we've recruited that haven't panned put like Moore and King, to kids who have flat-out left the team like Ivery, this position has been nothing short of a failure under this regime.

As discussed in another thread, we have plenty of bodies to run a 4-3. Its a 3-4 that we are going to be in trouble with.

Kamalu and Chick can both play inside in a 4-3. We also have Moore, King, Pierre, Hamilton, and now Huertelou. Not counting Jenkins and Moten coming in.

I think we can field a serviable DT rotation in a 4-3.
serviceable is defined as giving up 500 plus yards and almost 50 points to duke. ******* duke. GTFO.
