How Did the CFB World Miss it This Bad?

the number 10 ranking was based on last year 100%.

When you consider that they lost every playmaker on offense- most of whom were excellent college players- you realize just how stupid it was to rank them at 10.

I don’t know everything about college football but I know Miami and I know fsu and there is no way fsu should have been ranked above Miami.

I think people are underrating GTech just a bit tho. They’ve seen decently steady improvement since they moved in from Beamer and did their reset

The media knew Fsu was horrible this is just extra ammo for 1) the demolition of the Acc, 2) the best way to punish them for all that crying and 3) to discredit any playoff contenders form this conference so they can say the conference doesn't deserve a second spot.

Pre season rankings are mostly just them looking at it thru the lens from the previous season.

You just don’t lose that many KEY PLAYERS and just be the same level or wven close to it unless you recruit like the elites

Verse, coleman, wilson, green, fiske, jtravis, benson, jones,bell,bethune..Those aren’t just random names, those were literally there best players all of them got drafted and there was a bunch of other guys who started that were good just didn’t get drafted..The fall off was easy to predict

I also think there was some collective guilt for leaving them out of the playoff. Was it perhaps the best use of the committee’s discretion we will ever see? Absolutely. The four playoff games plus the SEC championship made for incredible tv (and let’s be honest, the acc championship and even the fsu/uf game were pathetic). But still, if you fluff them up and play up the revenge angle you get less whining from fsu, and then when fsu self-destructs you can talk out of the other side of your mouth and say see I told you they didn’t belong.

That being said, I was so convinced they were bad I downloaded the hard rock app and bet the spread, but the puffery on game day convinced me not to bet the money line and under on season wins. It’s the only bitter taste in an otherwise glorious day. I’ll be honest, this feels almost as good as a big canes win.

i dont believe anyone "missed it"

preseason rankings don't matter (and shouldn't exist in my opinion)

most probably felt bad for them after the cFP thing and figured it would sort it itself out during the season so they got the benefit of the doubt based off last season like most on the list

This sums it up. Back in January, like many of you, I said that GT would beat FSU in Dublin. Like many of you, I was also surprised how much the CFB world was talking up FSU going into 2024.

This was a team that lost:

-Its star QB
-Its star RB
-Its star WRs
-Its star TE
-Its star DE and DT

And multiple other starters on the defense. This was a team that looked completely different when Jordan Travis went down. Even with Travis, it had skated by clearly inferior teams and had major luck on its side. This is also a team that got annihilated by Georgia, which exposed that its level of HS recruiting was mediocre at best. Yet the CFB world still regarded this 2024 FSU team as a preseason ACC champion pick and Top 10 team.

There’s a lot of season left, and there’s time to turn things around, but this is an at best 8-4 FSU team. They’ve got a tougher schedule than anticipated. They will be underdogs against Clemson, ND, and Miami. They have touch matchups at SMU and Memphis. They also have some decent matchups against BC and UNC.

Finally, like many of you on this board have said, you can’t live or die by the portal. At some point mediocre HS recruiting is gonna catch up. Finally, it looks like FSU’s bill is due.

The only thing in all of this that is confusing is how the CFB world so blatantly ignored what was in front of them. A team that downgraded at every position is, in fact, going to be far worse this year compared last year. The only way 7-5/8-4 gets worse for FSU is if Miami and MC finally break through and have a huge Year 3. TBD, the opportunity is there and must be taken.

I think they ranked them that high so fsu doesn’t sue them

Brent Key is doing a great job there. He's a GT alum, so it'll be interesting to see if sticks around if he keeps winning. I hoprle he stays so can be a thorn in Kirby's side

This is one of the biggest issues with preseason polls. There’s always a few teams who are ranked highly based solely on last season’s results. The guys who made them a good team last year aren’t there anymore. Just too many question marks to make them an automatic top 10 team.

Last night I talked with 2 Fsu fans and about 4or 5 Florida fans while I was bartending. Florida fans were pretty consistent and agreed that they think there in for a tough game against us.

The Fsu dudes were thinking they are in for a good year. I brought up all the players lost and said how can you think you can loose that kind of talent and not take a step back. Well I guess I was right. I bet them 2 dudes are like fck that bartender. lol.
Please tell me you put drops of golytely in their drinks.

🤣

Noles have a new (retread?) qb and lots of new faces. GT has a decent returning qb and lots of returnees. Only surprise in this story was Vegas starting Noles at 14 point favs.

Some parallels at the qb position for our game vs uf. Obviously Ward a better qb than DJ but first game jitters at a big rival’s home stadium isn’t a gimme.

We need to take care of the ball and we’ll get the W

It is Week0 of the 2024 College Football season. Let's see how the season plays out.
