How California’s bill will change recruiting

The NCAA isn't going to let CA athletes alone get paid.

There's either going to be national change, or the NCAA will just cease operations in CA and ban CA schools. They've already come out and said this, and really that's how it should be. It would be dumb as **** to just let CA (or even CA and a few more states) create an unlevel playing field.

We’re already there. Due to the corruption of the NCAA, SEC, Oh st, etc. smaller teams can’t compete anymore. Money and subsequent corruption has already ruined college football.
Agreed, just moving even further in that direction.

Certain nuances of college football made it special, if it moves more and more into a situation where the same 5 teams are in the playoff every year, it'll start to look more and more just like minor league football and many won't care anymore.

Only 10 different teams have made the playoffs and only 3 different ones have won it. Bama has made it every year, Clemson 4 of 5. OU 3 of 5. All 3 likely to make it again this year. Tell me how we aren't already in a situation with the same teams making it every year?

There is a 0% chance a “paid” player will ever play against an “amateur “ NCAA player.

No you’re right, do we expect it to move more in that direction or loosen that up?

This law wasnt really intended for Football but more inline for the Olympic Sports. Remember a ton of Olympic Athletes from the California schools tend to compete in the Olympics while on scholarship. Because of that scholarship, it hinders them from collecting on Olympic endorsement money and perks.

I'm even beginning to lose interest. Sick of Bama grabbing everything.
Imagine if the NCAA removed the 85 scholarship limit and we reverted to unlimited scholarships? Saban could theoretically sign ALL the 5 and 4 star talent and pay them all.

There will be NO changes. They pay kids, they're doomed. No bowls, downgrade conference affiliation, diminishing TV deals. They will not pay kids. Looney Left Laws in Cali will not Trump NCAA rules.
That is ridiculous. Not just because California is too economically important to the NCAA. Nor because political support is essential to the continued viability of the MCAA. But mostly because I am certain the NCAA wants no part of discovery in a California court.

How could he play them all? there would still only be 11 guys on each side of the ball.

The best thing that could happen to UM would be unlimited roster sizes. Alabama would choke on its own bags. And kids would quickly learn that all that glitters is not gold.

Im on my way out this ****....losing love of the same teams winning cause of cheating
right. players openly talk about getting money. Menawhile ncaa goes after miami kids for test driving a car, eating a steak, and getting a lap dance. Yet there is 250 hawaians related to tua at every bama game like they are paying for that lol.

Probably. Although I wonder if they were paid enough, would it really matter to some of them.

On a macro level I think we're headed to a college economic situation akin to that of the Soviet Union. The USSR spent 17.8% of its GDP on defense spending, a staggering figure when compared to other countries. I can imagine a situation where the University of Alabama has an operating budget of $1.3B per year, but $450M of it is spent on college athletics. Or in other words, an unsustainable situation.

I would love someone openly challenge this on national TV. Or the fact that Saban leases cars to his own players.

If you follow your logic, we should root for the SEC to go the way of the USSR. Let it spend itself into a mess. Regulations always end up benefitting the biggest of the regulated. Thats what the NCAA has created. Deregulate and market forces will work.
