How bad is the ACC?

The ACC is weird this year. The drop from the higher-level teams to the lower-level teams is insane, but I’d argue the better teams can play with anyone.

Miami
FSU
Clemson (yes, I saw yesterday…but I also saw them against LSU)
Pitt
Georgia Tech

These are all very good teams.

NC State
Virginia
Boston College
Duke
SMU
Louisville

These are all solid teams. Most of these teams will win 8 games this year.

The rest of the league is terrible. And that’s what gives the ACC a bad name. But I don’t think any conference has looked particularly good. The B1G especially has been terrible this year outside of Ohio State and Oregon. Took Illinois the entire game to pull away from Duke, for example. And they are supposed to be one of the best teams in that conference.

Duke had 4TOs, 2 of which that were back breakers as well in that game. Only Illinois even pulled away. Duke outgained them

3-9 against P4 out of conference opponents so far this year.

I don’t see the ACC getting two teams in the playoff. More pressure on Miami to win out because there is no room for error.
Results matter 3-9 against the P4 is trash. With that said, watching these first 2 weeks, the NIL era so far has leveled the playing field and has been fun to watch. I feel Miami is as good as any team in the country. the only real question for Miami is if the defense is actually improved and can be counted on to actually stop people. The offense will be plenty good

By the end of the year, most of these games won’t matter. Clemson got absolutely smoked in week one by Georgia last year and they still made the playoffs. Meanwhile Miami crushed their week one SEC opponent and played in the Pop Tart Bowl. These games are fun for bragging rights but they’re almost meaningless in the big picture.

Doesn’t matter. If we’re one of the two best teams in the league, we’re in.

No, the ACC will not just get one bid.

Excellent point. It's a long season.

Delulu amigo.

Highly, HIGHLY likely ACC runner up is not getting invited to CFPO.

Not impossible, but c'mon now.

Clemson was ACC Champion.

If SMU were ACC Champ, they get in and Clemson runner-up probably gets in.

If SMU faced somebody other than Clemson last year in ACCCG, Clemson watching CFPO like the rest of us.

There's gonna be polling/committee chaos all year, across all conferences. I'd bet that AT LEAST one 3 loss team gets in.

But as for the ACC, there's actually a path to getting 3 teams in..

Cal, Clemson and Miami don't play each other and could easily end up tied in the ACC standings at the end of the year.

Cal avoids Miami, Clemson, FSU, Pitt and GT. Watch them end up being this year's version of 2024 Indiana. Terrible but unbeaten going into ACCCG.

Ohio State was left out of the B1G championship game last year but still got into the playoffs. That could very well be what happens to us if there's a 3 way tie.

Clemson then beats Cal and wins the ACC as a 3 loss team.

I can’t see how the CFP committee leaves a top ranked Miami out if we win against ND, SMU, FSU, UF, USF. That is likely 4 ranked plus one SEC team.

you conference lovers just arent gonna stop huh?
The problem is, in this era of CFB you are forced to cheer for teams in the ACC (minus FSU) because everything is perception. A weak ACC hurts your chances of securing an at large bid. A strong ACC does the opposite.

I used to despise the “conference lovers,” but we are caught between a rock and hard place right now. We need the ACC to hold their own.
