Hot Take: What if Bama isn’t that good at developing DBs..

Same at WR. They land these 5 stars all over the place and end up just relying on whatever South Florida freshman receiver they land.

They safeties are good in the pros. Their CBs suck at the pro level

Huh? Levi Wallace is this year’s highest graded rookie CB on PFF. Minkah doesn’t exclusively play safety. Humphrey is good. Kareem Jackson had one of the highest paid contracts. They had 1 kid bust in the pros in Millner.

Thought we were only discussing cornerbacks. Kirpatrick’s not a bust, just not a all-pro caliber player.

I don’t give a **** about Alabama, but I don’t get your reasoning. They get the top recruits at every position. You think they’re going to suck as pros just because they went to a specific school? Players get themselves drafted off size, speed and how they project in the next level. Do you think that Brennan Carroll developed dorsett into a first rounder? How about developing hurns into breaking a bunch Miami records? Did Paul Williams turn Artie burns into a first rounder and the school leader in picks for a CB? What about James coley who never coached or played WR, but now he has a first round prospect leaving Georgia. Art Kehoe must be a beast developer to get flowers drafted in the top10, even though he busted in the nfl. Maybe Diaz can re-hire Mark Richt jr to coach qbs, since Kaaya broke a bunch of records.

Watch the games. A true freshman qb won the national title two years in a row, with true freshman WRs dominating. These kids now come in ready to play.

That in part goes back to your game - if you're a run-heavy offense - you won't be throwing as much, and your DB's won't be getting the same workout as you'll need in an Air Raid offense.

Last night was a precision attack offensively and defensively by Clemson.

That Clemson coaching staff really earned their money last night. Players were completely confident and knew their business.

Bingo.

...as their reputation states they are.

Josh Jobe And Surtain (and the rest of the Bama secondary really) weren’t prepared last night. Their technique and coverage skills didn’t look good at all and even over the course of the year they’ve been a pretty bad unit. It got me thinking how is this possible that a team like Bama who gets to hand pick their blue chip DBs would have to rely on freshmen.

Signed in 2016 and 2017 All high 4stars and I couldn’t tell you if any of them played last night.

If we signed those guys our expectations would be to have the #1 pass defense in the country.
PS2 got himself destroyed against the run... and all of them seemed to give up on the play after a catch. Saban is going to crucify those guys in the film room.

Landon collins and minkah Fitzpatrick both killed it this year among many others

Not a wise thread

Right and Saban has been there for 10+ years and that is all he can show for it? Two with the talent he is bringing in?

Not a wise post.

Fact. Remember Dee Miliner?
Drafted #9 overall....out of league after 3 seasons.

I always thought all they do is teaching them to hold and hopefully it doesn't get called or their dline gets pressure before. Could be why the bust in the NFL cant't get away with that in the league.

there front seven makes there dbs, but highly touted dbs want to play in front of that secondary cause it gets u paid and it hides dbs deficiencies as prospects imo. Same reason why a guy like Rumph goes first round and is terrible, he played with a dominant front 7 making it easier. So its dangerous picking a corner up from bama cause they may not be as good as there projection.

Any wr they get from here instantly starts. Jeudy makes those other guys look pedestrian. In fact those other guys are,

Do some of you do research before typing? This could have been said around 2012-2014 when they didnt have much to show for but they've been pumping them out recently

Landon Collins, Eddie Jackson, Marlon Humphrey, Levi Wallace, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Ronnie Harrison in just three years. Collins and Jackson are Pro Bowlers.

Minkah #78 CB
Collins #38 S
According to Pro football focus. Don’t let their names fool you. Minkah got absolutely abused in the Patriots game.

PFF shouldn't be used to gauge how good a player is. They grade performance on the field over talent. Minkah for example was playing both S and CB. Did they take that into account? They have 37 Safeties better than Collins on PFF but he's one of six safeties selected for the Pro Bowl.

Xavier McKinney played really well versus Oklahoma.

The Audible Podcast, Bruce and Stew spoke about Alabama's DB play. Supposedly its been a technique issue. They've been working on it since that first play of the Ole Miss game where DK Metcalf torched Saivion Smith.

First time I ever saw quit on tht face of Saban and quit from a Saban coached team. When you punch a bully right in the bridge of his nose...
Don't know that it was quit, think more along the lines of they'd never been in this position before. The only thing Nick Saban could not prepare for
happened last night, and that was how would his team react to that kind of adversity.

NEWS FLASH: Those guys that they were playing against at OU and Clemson are really good too. (future early draft picks)
