Hot Take: Ryan Ragone

People like to bash this guy, while the so called more talented players constantly got outrun, took bad angles, and simply missed play after play. Ideally, I would like a more athletic dude at LB, but if that athletic dude is always in the wrong place at the wrong time, what good is he?

Did you watch the GT game?

Did you watch every other game where our LBs were getting abused? Yes, I saw this guy miss a couple plays, but to act like our other LBs were consistently good is a joke.

If they all suck, play the scholarship kid that needs experience. I've never seen a walk-on of Ragones caliber play in a P5 game before. It was an embarrassment.

If his play was embarrassing, what about the play of the guys that played for 3+ years and looked just as bad? Also, how bad are the guys that can't beat him out?

All the athletic ability in the world means nothing if you're always doing the wrong thing. I agree, scholarship players need to get on the field. However, simply handing it to them is a mistake. Make them better by making them earn their spot. ***** that entitlement BS, you're a scholarship player so you are handed a spot. Nah. Earn it. Beat out that walk on.

Ya all remember the older days when walk ons were invited and tested. If one was good enough then he was given a ship. Nebraska was good at it.

Ray Lewis, Jessie Armstead, Michael Barrow, Dan Morgan, Beason, Jonathan Vilma, and -- last but certainly not least -- Ryan Ragone (5'9" & 160 lbs soaking wet with a blazing 5.50 40 time). We back!!
Yes, 95% of walk ons don't see the field. But its not can't see the field.

Walk ons are a different breed. They really wan't to be here. They're living a "Walter Mitty" type of fantasy. If this kid is in the 5% who do see the field, more power to him. Maybe he's dramatically improved physically/athletically since he got here?

And, he's more like 5' 11", 220 lbs. (Not far off from where Zach Thomas was in college)

I truly believe in walk ons. But one has to have talent and a crap load of heart and soul. I love the underdog factor. They are out there.

Same attitude that had Patchan playing over Rousseau earlier in the season.

If you're having to play dudes like Ragone to get guys motivated then you're not doing your job.

Manny is a tiny nerd with a speech impediment.

He never played ball and was bullied into cutting up film for everyone else. Naturally, now that he's in a position of power he's got a soft spot for guys who remind him of himself. He loves a good, hard-working kid who's physically inferior to other guys.

See:
Jimbo Murphy
Ryan Ragu
Scott Patchan

Par for the course for a guy who tracks random outbursts of celebration.

I'm telling you, some guys just aren't motivated. They have to want it, you know?

The staff starting Patchan over GR was crazy. GR did nothing but dominate since he arrived. I don't see any of our scholarship LBs being in that realm of greatness.

Ay! Why-a you no like-a the Ragu?
