Honoring the 1989 National Championship Team

Was anyone else at the Orange Bowl game that year between ND and Colorado? Any time Miami scored the stadium would randomly erupt in joy from people listening on transistor radios and watching on portable TVs.
Were we playing at same time?

The only game with noise that could compete would be the Fin playoff game against Ken Stabler's Raiders. We were so noisy that night, Ken got up on the bench and waved a white towel -- we took it as sign of surrender. Still, the ND game felt louder. The ND game in the Rock in 2017 reminded me a little of it.
I agree....ND 89 game was without a doubt the Loudest game I ever heard (Canes or Fins) at the OB without question....
Carlos Jones Pick6 against FSU in 94 being the Loudest Moment...

The 89 team had some weaknesses that were all but gone by 90/91....I still say the 91 team would've gave 01 all they could handle..and then some...Lubicks Defense was many yrs before its time....If ya think Ohio Sts 2002 DL gave Dorsey fits...the 91 DL would've had him in serious trouble...

Disagree.

Tez/Maryland/Peguese/Mark were studs.

91 had Hamlet and Eric Miller. Cmon man.
Go watch the Cotton Bowl game vs a Top 3 Texas team...and then go back and show me a more dominating performance from the 89 team...who were handled by FSU...and Bama had them on the ropes in NC game...

Ha, I was 9 years old watching the 83 Orange Bowl. I still remember my dad telling me that college football teams would have to change there mindset regarding players because of “this Miami team”. “This Miami team is small but fast”.

My dad was very traditional when it came to football but he fell in love with Miami football that night. We lived In Norfolk, Va and only got to see regional unless it was a big game. Needless to say, after that game we got to see them regularly
that was the first college football game I ever watched....been a Cane since that day

In all my yrs of watching UM FB...The 91 teams Defense was on another Level...Entire Defense was 100% Savages...Top too Bottom....I'll take a Lubick Defense over any DCs Defense in the last 35yrs of CFB....And give absolutely No Fs what kind of Offense it had to face...

How Ironic that Lubick's 90 & 91 Defense was comprised of 80% JJ recruits, with Butch closing on most of them...

This is the kind of thread I wished the kids playing now could see. It would explain why we get so impassioned and upset about Cane football.

Do current players even have a clue of the greatness that went before them? 80s-early 2000s? I often wonder.

It happened before 2017 so it is "old and lame and who cares about anything that happened before me. I am ground zero, the big bang, for anything important in the world, kiss my td rings while we are losing to duke"
