Spectrum no longer carries HS local games of the week. So unless a HS game is on espn, then you will have to find a live stream.

Charter drops Spectrum Sports in Florida

Charter Communications will cease TV operations of Spectrum Sports in Florida at the end of the year.

Spectrum Sports, a 24-hour sports channel available exclusively to Charter Communications customers in the Tampa and Orlando areas, produces more than 5,000 hours of high school sports programming each year, including more than 160 high school games from preseason to the state finals, according to the company’s website.

Spectrum Sports’ TV operations will end after the high school football season ends, said a spokesperson for Charter (NASDAQ: CHTR), the company that bought Bright House Networks last year.

Spectrum Sports resources will be reallocated to strengthen local news operations in Florida, the spokesperson told Tampa Bay Business Journal.

“Some jobs will be eliminated, but most will be either unchanged, relocated or reconceived,” the spokesperson said.

At least six people were told their jobs were being eliminated, according to FTVLive, a TV news insider website that initially reported the story.

“We’ve also decided to elevate the depth of our sports coverage and leverage the power of our local news channels in Florida by scheduling a nightly 30-minute sports show on Bay News 9 (Tampa) and News 13 (Orlando),” the Charter spokesperson said.

It was not clear when the nightly sports show would launch.

It’s among the changes that Charter has made locally since buying Bright House. Charter began rebranding Bright House as Spectrum in November. In March, an Orlando company that provided technicians for Charter, Interactive Marketing, said it was laying off 129 workers after Charter chose not to continue its contract.
