High School Football Could Be Much Better

Most private school teachers can't pass the state certification to become a teacher and make less than public school teachers as well. Trust me I went to private school for 4 months and the teachers didn't know how to teach a kid with ADHD( I was a straight A student in honors before I got there ) so my grades dropped until I went back to Sawgrass Springs Middle School where my mom's taught for 20 years

So your experience at one garbage private school is where you're getting your basis for an opinion?

My kids have an 8:1 student to teacher ratio. Have different specialists that come in to help enrich the kids. All the rooms have smart boards...... Most the teachers are state certified (which apparently isn't a big deal) or have a Masters degree. They aren't protected by tenure, so if they aren't doing their job, they get fired!

Public schools don't have the resources to compete with what many private schools have to offer, atleast in Florida!

No my basis is how many Special needs students or children with any simple disability like ADHD come back to my mother after they discover the teachers at the private school don't know what the **** they're doing FYI they had 17 this year, that's why certifications matter, tell me if you had a heart attack would you want someone who just went to medic school to help you, or someone who passed the state paramedic certification test, would you want a licensed contractor working on your house, or someone who just say they're a contractor. I'm going to go on a limb and say you want the licensed professional, so why is it different for teachers teaching your kids. Also most aren't certified because to do certified you have to get your certification renewed every year, so I'm sure they were at some point but I promise they're not anymore because they're job requirements to require them to be certified or have a degree( did you know that? ). Teachers aren't protected by tenure they have to meet certain progress goals based on grades and testing in order not to be pink slipped. Not hating on private schools because I understand if you live in a place like Miami where in order to get your kids around good kids you have to put them in private or charter institutions for behavioral reasons but where I'm at in Broward county you don't have to worry about that.

I for one think it is a fantastic idea for the government to increase its spending on high school athletics so that the <1% of all high school students that receive college scholarships in athletics are better served.

Zbrod95 is correct. Most charter and private schools pay their teachers less than public schools so they're often left with the leftovers of the teaching pool. Not to mention the standards for qualifications are completely arbitrary, meaning the private owner of a charter school can hire anyone he wants to be the principal of his school regardless of their level of education or experience. When Broward county was having a teaching crunch a few years back, i knew some people who took jobs at charter schools since the public schools weren't hiring. It's essentially the same job but you get paid less and if you ever decide to take a position at a public school, your tenure at the private/charter school doesn't count so you have to start at the bottom of the pay scale again.

If you have ever travelled outside of US then you would never say something that idiotic, broken as it maybe our education is allowed to function because our Military keeps this country safe. When your in a foreign in country and know that you can go to US Embassy when shut hits the fan and the Military will eventually come for is innate feeling of security. But unfortunately due to budgets this feeling of security has been eroded over the last decades.

Go Watch the movie 13 hours and then think about cutting defense spending. In the 1990's the US military rescued countless Americans and Allied Citizens trapped in war torn countries. When I visited war torn Haiti as a child in the 2nd grade, I knew if anything happened if I could make it to the US Embassy I would be safe as a US Citizen. Same thing went for Jamaica ( yes Jamaica during the 70's 80's election time was a very dangerous place).

For the record I am Democratic that believes in a strong Military. This countries Education system is an issue that needs to be addressed but funding is not the major issue , more so it is access to quality instruction and family support ( it takes a village to raise a child). My family is full of Veterans, Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Architects, Nurses, and business owners because of this country's education system ( private and public). An we are all either 1st or 2nd generation immigrants or US Citizens. Bottom line people in this wonderful country get out what they put in.

First of all, I made some of the biggest sacrifices for this country. And what I gave up I can never get back. See, I didn't just talk about it, I did it!

The security you talk about having when abroad, it comes from people like me who risk everything to pull your *** out when shiot get hot cause it got hot way before you ever heard about it.

The point here is, I have earned the right to point out what I think is a better plan that works for our kids today. I will never let people like you sell us on believing that the best military equipment is a better investment than our kids and the institutions that educate them.

Save it, cause I've earned it and continue to work abroad in support of it!

The surprising thing here is the down grading of a topic that is meant to show support for a system that works. You guys really need to get your priorities in order. I don't mind you fuggin with me cause I can take it as well as I give it. But show some love for the kids.

So a true patriot knows that we can sacrifice one year of military spending to boost up our educational system at home. Do you realize we spend over 500 Billion every year on the military? Do you have any idea what you can do with 598.5 Billion in the education budget. You will have what we have in the military, the best equipment with plenty of money to waist. At some point we need to reinvest into the minds of our next generation that's going to lead this country.

I earned a full scholarship to the #3 business school in america at the to time so I went college. My other 4 neighborhood friends went into the Navy and Carlo's little brother went into the Marines, 5 years before that one of my cousins went into the Air Force ( he lost his scholarship to Columbia University), my other cousin went into the Army ( then earned his engineering degree with the GI Bill), and my other Cousin went into Navy (and earned her Law Degree via the GI Bill). So both my family and my childhood neighborhood have more demonstrated our Patriotism. An FYI a Patriot not only defends the country they also do their part to make their community better by bettering themselves an then giving back to help bring others along.

An as for understanding military spending one of my cousins ( phd Mechanical reliability from Maryland) is a reliability engineer who has contracted for the navy and we have discussed at length the economics of how much spending the military does ( an FYI he is one of the people who tells the navy how long a ship they are currently using will last ).
