He literally called Miami fans the biggest bandwagon fans out of all professional /college sports... But I like Miami...
That's like telling a girl she's got great ****ies for a fat girl

I like it. Don't give a sh*t what they say about a fan base. Live in the Gables. Make Pro money after 3 years wearing the U.
Re-F#cking-Cruit.

He's right though.

We (CiS and the bluelot booty bandits) are the 1% of Canes fans.

I agree he is on point. BUT all Miami sports teams are like this, the fair-weathered fans only show when they're good. That is for all the teams not just the canes.

Fans want fanbase size to be important, because fans want to feel important to the teams sucess without doing anything.

What is this guy talking about?!?!? Bandwagon? Look! Some of my happiest days were at UM. I love the city. I love the [[_]]. I love the team. Whenever a Cane does well, especially a kid whose football scholarship is a ticket to a decent career wherever that might be, I feel a little wet in the eyes. I want the Canes to excel, not just in national championships (although that certainly would be optimal), but more importantly in becoming successful in life. I love those guys on the team, even though I don't know a single one of them. This guy, Herd, doesn't get it.

He does get it. Miami (FL) has a small core of die hard fans. The core fan base is nothing close to gigantic public universities in Podunk college towns like Penn State, Oklahoma, Bama, OSU or Michigan (to name a few). But when we are rolling, the national brand reemerges. USCw is the only other program that comes close in this regard.

Sure, but he IGNORES the fact that Miami is a small private school. Someone should at least TRY to acknowledge that.

What other private school with a full-time undergraduate enrollment of 8,000 (and those are the only ones who MUST pay the Athletic Fee, and thus can use their Cane Cards to get into games) fills an NFL stadium?

Seriously?

It's easy when you have 50,000 students (and the alumni base that comes with that enrollment). We have 8,000. Even Southern Cal has an enrollment that is DOUBLE that of UM's.

He is 100% correct. Not only are Cane fans bandwagon fans, they are the least knowledgeable and clueless. Read many of the posts here, I rest my case.

That 1% of fans are the the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. It's pretty amazing that our 1% supports our program the way it does.

Exactly, never cease to amaze me. Miami's football success can be compared to two other private schools USC and ND one with an enrollment of 44K in a city with no, until recently, NFL team and one with one of the largest fanbases world wide for a multitude of reasons.

I challenge anyone to find a more similar school to Miami that has better support, period.

No, he is absolutely right. When we are good the bandwagon explodes. There is no denying this. Heck, I think 99% might even be a conservative number. I hated the so called fans that popped up whenever we were winning and tried to piggyback off the success of the team.

He also didn't talk about how hot noon games are, or the lack of an IPF. Who cares? He was right. He hit on Richt being the right guy for the job, recruiting taking off, and the college football world being better when Miami is good. Oh, and he taked about the bandwagoners. Good enough for me.

I used to take this **** personally.

But there's no shame in admitting it. More or less, he's right.

Sure, you can add some more context like that Miami is a small private school in an affluent suburb of Miami with approximately 10,000 undergraduates. And that this bandwagon concept is true for all Miami teams. But still, he's right: The City of Miami offers so much else to do that the team, the product, the show must be good, it must be fun. It's got to get the people going.

You and me will sit in the scorching hot sun to watch our team go 6-6. Almost nobody else will. Those slackjawed snaggletooths in Tuscaloosa have nothing better to do, Miamians do.

But when we're winning, when we're hot, the city pays attention. The product's good. They show up. And because the City of Miami is ****, and because the Canes infused panache into the college game, and because we've got the best color combination in sports, and because we've won five national championships, and because we produced Michael Irvin and Ray Lewis and all the GOATs, and because we talk good ****, everybody in the country comes running.
