Interested to see the chess match this weekend. Hetherman has done well against scrambling QB's and our defense looks good, but Malzahn is a good play caller and FSU has speed which I think can be trouble for any team

Hetherman mentioned in his press conference that he's never gone against malzahn but he went against a similar offense last year - he's referring to the UNC game where he went up against Chip Lindsey who is a Malzahn disciple at both Auburn and UCF

UNC won 19-17 (Minnesota missed a FG as time expired to lose). UNC had 252 total yards, 147 rushing and 105 passing.

Things of note, UNC had Omarion Hampton (RB for the LA Chargers), and UNC lost their QB to a broken leg in the game

anyone smarter than me with deep analysis on hetherman and/or how we might fare against this offense?

I see our Edge guys forcing TC to get mobile early if he decides to throw the ball.
I dont expect them to do that, if they can help it. TC will not win big games with his arm.
We have to be disciplined, we cant let them get to the edge, and we have to stuff everything up the middle.

Theres going to be plenty of movement and misdirection to find ways around our guys, and sometimes when ypu have a team that flies to the ball, there are chances for over-pursuit. So we have to be disciplined, and I fully expect a spy all game.

If theres a lot of rain, I would fully expect a slower ground and pound offense from us. However, that secondary is so bad at the second level, I dont know how we dont get a bunch of chunk plays there.

At half time Id expect us to be up by 10-13 if we can accomplish those things. I feel like good guys win 37-17

Get to the qb all is trick bs gets stuffed in the back field . I would push Bain inside on. Pass downa and bring in speed de to take the qb out the game

Inside push is what will win this game on defense. Blay, Moten, and Scott will earn their NIL if they re-establish the LOS. This will disrupt tiny Tommy's reads and keys as well as disrupt the ball carriers' path in the option game.

I’d watch the MN game vs Penn State. I understand PSU isn’t an offensive juggernaut. But MN held them to their third lowest offensive output in the regular season. Held them to 117 yards rushing, on 33 carries. 31 of which came on one play.

They kept Allan in check running all game. And realistically should’ve won that game, MN just doesn’t have the players to win a war of attrition game against a team like PSU.

His bread and butter is stopping the run. MN had a phenomenal run defense last season, outside of the Iowa game. The difference is MN doesn’t have the quality of talent that we do. But they flew to the ball. It’s unreal how good they were gang tackling last season, Minnesota that is.

They will stretch plays out. Forcing teams to play laterally and then wait for the help to arrive. Which we’ve all seen so far this year with us. As long as we don’t lose our fits, and keep them moving east to west, we can slow their attack down.

#3 and #4 will spend most of the game on the edge just as they've done all year. Yes Lightfoot comes in on passing downs. We aren't reinventing the D here. #3 and #4 need to destroy the edge vs this outside running game. That's the first way you stop Gus, the 2nd is stop the sideways pass. 3rd is the stop/go fade routes. Looked like Hetherman used several spies vs South Florida

First down will be key. They’ll win some downs but when they get behind the sticks especially 3rd and 6+ I suspect we’ll dedicate 5 people to the quarterback (single man blitzes or spy) and cage him. Then play a lot of 3 or 4 under zones behind it so we have eyes. Castellanos against uva panicked vs a rush and we have an aggressive upfield front. I think he’ll have a tough time with that if we don’t give him outlet lanes.
