Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage OL Kai-Leon Herbert and Tedarrell Slaton remain high priorities for the Hurricanes.

And UM continues to make a big push for both.

Heritage line coach Travis Spiva says he's talking with UM coach Mike Rumph "pretty often," and of course he's in constant contact with both top linemen.

Spiva says Herbert and Slaton have set up Cane official visits together for the weekend of Jan. 21

"Both of them talk to Mike Rumph all the time, know the situation at Miami, that they can play early there," Spiva said. "It's more the fit, the feel there that they have to see."

Herbert already feels he fits at Michigan, where he committed. And while Spiva says Herbert is "pretty solid" in his commitment, with the visit he's leaving the door open for the Canes.

Slaton, meanwhile, is taking an open view to recruiting. Spiva says it won't surprise him if it's a signing day announcement for Slaton.

"It's open for Tedarrell," Spiva said. "He hasn't shown anything, hasn't shown any lean to anything yet."

Spiva says both players are impressed with how UM coaches are recruiting them, and that it ultimately will come down to the comfort level at the school.

"They love the coaches, the players at Miami and the idea of staying close (to home), the playing time (opportunity)," Spiva said. "But Miami has to match the feeling they get when they go other places."

I'm confident now

If Rumph helps us land Slaton & Herbert, the thus far warranted criticism of his recruiting will dissipate considerably. Would also help inspire confidence about possibly landing at least one of Heritage's elite DB recruits next year if we're finally able to get our foot in the door there.

guys should see thru play on the field that playing time is there and that this staff has us in the right direction, something they could be happy to be part of in the future!!!
