Helpful Playoff Scenario

Even if we lose to Clemson, which I'm confident we don't, the following series of events would make a Cane playoff birth foolproof.

Also, before I dive into this, please spare me the "Who cares? If we win, we're in" crap. I get that, but it can't hurt if we have an insurance policy, right? So, here we go:

If Bama wins out, Auburn and Georgia are eliminated from playoff contention. If -- and I know this is a HUGE if -- Michigan pulls off a miracle and beats Taint, they are eliminated from playoff contention. Then, when Taint beats Wisconsin, they will have succeeded in eliminating Wisconsin, too.

This is a very realistic scenario, outside of Michigan beating Taint, but since that's a rivalry game, anything can happen. But think about it: if the above happens, we're in -- no matter what. Want proof? Just take a look at the playoff rankings below:

1) Alabama
2) Clemson
3) Miami
4) Oklahoma
5) Wisconsin
6) Auburn
7) Georgia
8) Notre Dame
9) Ohio State
10) Penn State

I mean, even if we do lose, who the **** would jump us? We destroyed Notre Lame, and the rest of the teams ranked #10 and beyond simply don't have a resume that stacks up against a 1-loss Miami team who suffered their only loss to a playoff team.

With all that said, winning out would make all of this irrelevant, but again, an insurance policy never hurts.

Beat Pitt!

Lol, I set myself up for that one.

Couldn't help myself. But essentially you're right.

Also, if we were to lose to Clemson, which we won't, that is almost the only way we get in. It would be REALLY tough debate if Alabama wins out and Taint wins out. We could still get the nod there as a one-loss win vs a two-loss conference champ.

Even if Ohio State wins we are in over them if it's a close game against Clemson

Taint got in as a one loss non champ last year over two loss Penn state champ so we would get in

That's what should happen, but I don't trust these stupid, biased committee members.

nope, ohio state will be in. their AD is on the committee. forget it.

I think we have to lose by 20 + to get jumped by a two loss team...but we can’t fart around and beat Pitt 17-14 or some crap on Friday...we need to stomp their asses

I can't see how OSU can possibly jump UM when our only loss is to #2 /3 Clemson, IF we lose. Maybe had the Iowa game been really close, but even then, they lost to Iowa. Getting flat out stomped by an unranked team is 100X worse than anything that has happened to us this year. If our beatdown of Notre Dame eliminated them, then surely a beatdown at the hands of Iowa should end their chances. Heck, I can see us beating Clemson in a close game and Clemson making it in over them.

We lose and we're done. Lose to Pitt and they'll put us so far down the poll that only a blowout win over Clemson would give us a chance. Lose to Clemson and we're out even though it would be the best loss in the country while they make excuses for Clemson. TBH they just banking on us losing one of our next 2 games because they can't get over the UNC and GT game.

Man I hope Michigan ends this Ohio State talk. Ohio State won't even score against Clemson or Alabama.

If the above scenario unfolds, who jumps us if we lose to Clemson in any fashion besides a blowout?

Why does everyone assume OU is going to beat TCU again? I know they crushed them once, but I think it is just as likely to happen as Auburn beating both Alabama and Georgia, which is discussed ad nauseam.

That's a good point. It's a very real possibility.

I don't want anything in the hands of these scum committee members. But yes, OP, this would be an ideal scenario.

The only team that scares me (re: us being jumped if we lose to Clemson) is a 2 loss taint. The media and the committee have been deep throating Urb's sack since the beginning of the season. It's not that they would want to keep us out, it's that they would want them in
