With his age(Dawson), he’s really only got one shot at the HC thing. Better to have a good job and the right to be picky. I’m sure he’s probably paid ridiculously well now. No reason to even entertain a G5 job. Or even a lower P5 job.

Hetherman is still very young and relatively inexperienced. I'm sure some schools started sniffing, but this guy was literally the linebackers coach at Rutgers about 25 months ago. I think for the schools to come calling that he'd be willing to leave for, he needs another year or two here. I think he's only about 42 years old. If we have a top 10 defense again this season, he is going to get a LOT of attention from some pretty decent schools.

Dawson has the more "traditional" resume, and I'm very surprised we've been able to hold onto him this long. I'm sure some decent schools have inquired. He's 48, he's been a coordinator in and out of the P4 level for a decade.
 
This is nothing more than a pay raise.

Dawson and Heatherman were never going to leave us for Equal roles elsewhere. They’d only leave for Better roles - aka HC jobs. In which case there will be no buyout aid think. So this basically does nothing more than increase their pay and give the coaches guarantees that they have a place here as long as they want it
 
Don't know if the interest is mutual, but word is, Heatherman is on the radar of more than a couple NFL GM's, including one who happens to be a former Cane.
