Hear me out..

I've been thinking about the Canes and I think I might be able to understand why we've been so bad over the past 20 years. . Miami is a major city and these kids are not putting in the work. Schools like Bama, UGA are in some BS town and there is nothing to do but play or practice football. The way we've recruited and the results we've had doesn't add up. What are your thoughts on this? Am I reaching or what? Miami and social media could just be to much and these kids aren't putting in nearly the work as they should?
Why does every time the phrase "Hear me out" is used it is followed by some of the dumbest **** ever to flow from people's mouths?

This seems closely related to the other thread about players being divas. Either way, these non-hard-workers or divas won 5 of their last 6 last year, beating the ACC champ on the road - while playing for a coach everybody said was getting fired.

It's clear we have 2 separate problems now: 1) the team didn't care, or quit vs MTSU (because that's not how they played vs A&M). 2) The offensive system is horrible and needs to be replaced - and that HAS to mean the coordinator. It's really #2 that I'm more concerned about because I'm certain Mario has the desire to fix #1, though I still wonder if that also is going to be a recurring problem considering how Oregon often played down to the competition.

Miami wasn’t an Major city in the 80’s, 90’s & 00’s?

All decades we played/won a championship, in?

The real problem is, Miami spent 20 years making horrible hires.

You have all these kids growing up today hearing how good Miami use to be.. and never seeing any evidence of such, besides YouTube clips.

That’s the problem(s).

Your reaching

I think it's because we have mostly South Florida kids that treat College like HS. They're around their HS friends and keep that mindset. They're not looking at College ball being the stepping stone to a career. They also haven't had a coach that knocks that out of them.

If you're right, is Mario that "coach that knocks that out of them?"

truth is the team just isnt that good. look at our WRs. look at our LBs. we had to bring in 5+ transfers on the DLine

add in the offensive scheme not being QB friendly to what worked last year, heres your result
Don’t disagree with this.
But have sucked for almost two decades now.
I remember a time when losing to North Carolina and Duke was shocking. Now we’re losing to FBS teams on the regular. The culture is completely broken here and something drastically needs to change.

I’ve thought the same Over the years but I don’t think it is as much a factor in the erosion of the program. We need team minded recruits who care about the U brand. With money being thrown at these kids I have my doubts about their loyalty to the U. It’s all about them. Athletes want to be celebrities these days. When they leave the U I wish them all well but really could care less. I’m an alum and a hurricane fan. To me it’s all about the U. I wish a lot of these recruits felt the same.

I'm a teacher in an urban area and it's really hard to get them to understand that there's a whole other world out there. Mario has one thing going for him and that's he went through it. He's got to find that right mix of local that have that want and out-of-state that brings in a new group of players/friends/culture.

I remember Miami in 2000. Nothing but farmland and cow pastures.

There's more to do in Miami than there is Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Trailerhassee, Athens, Baton Rouge, et al. Sure. That's also why those state schools pack stadiums on Saturdays; college football the only show in town—while Miami's non-alum fan base is fickle and treats the Canes like a pro franchise. (Again, last weekend—are you spending your money to watch Miami and Middle Tennessee State, or are you heading to HardRock on Sunday for Bills / Dolphins. Most would chose the latter.)

All that to say, no, the big city aspect of Miami isn't the problem. It's been ****-poor leadership, a revolving door of head coaches (and assistants), a president to actively tried to crush the program (and now a new one who at best has just gotten out of the way of a lame Board of Trustees) and an eat-what-you-kill approach to athletics, with no outside money invested into football until last December. Before that it was adidas, ACC TV rev share deals and ticket / apparel sales.

118-85 since the 2005 Peach Bowl (going into this year)—a 7-5 average over 16 seasons—six head coaches in 17 seasons and Mario now Miami's third hire in five years.

Not exactly the fast-track to football success.

Get the right kids in the program over the next few years, build a better culture and let this become Mario's program and a safe bet Miami looks a lot different come 2024 than it did the past 16 years.

We suck for the last 20 years because every coach we’ve had was stubborn & would not change what they do to fit what we have. Mario through 4 games might end up possibly being the worst in that regard unless he changes ASAP. I mean like vs UNC. If not his life will be a living ****. Choice is his.

Jesus. How soon you forget five and a half seasons of Al Golden backing Mark D'Onofrio and a slow-as-molasses 3-4 defense that almost destroyed the career of players like Anthony Chickillo.

We get it. Not the idea start for Mario, but enough with the hyperbole four games in with this possibly being "the worst".
