Harley's future

Harley seems like a great person & good role model. I'm grateful to him for all of his efforts in the program.

Being realistic, his best chance of getting drafted at all is:

1) Come back
2) Add 20-25 pounds of weight
3) Work intensely to improve his hands in the off-season (like Hankerson did with Duper)
4) Ball the *&$! out for the Canes next year (every single game with no major lulls) and be a lot more consistent catching the ball
5) Shave a little off his 40 time through intense speed training
6) Become a physical blocker (with the added weight & strength)

If he does all of the above, he MAY get drafted in the final rounds. If he leaves now, UDFA is very likely. Great kid. We should all root for him. Go Canes!

Assuming Wiggins and Pope return, Harley coming back would really create a logjam at receiver where Smith, Payton and Redding will still be sitting behind guys with combined 13 years of experience. The receiver group is backed up and needs as much roster turnover as possible to speed the emergence of new players. I want to see what Likens can really do to develop some young talent. Redding and Payton were physical specimens coming out of high school and we are lacking those things at the position badly.

If we didn't already have two underachieving guys returning, I would love nothing more than for Harley to return. He had a solid season and the back to back games he had against uva and nc state was one for the books.

Would welcome him back. I think he would excel even more if a true WR1 stepped up. Braxton Berrios type that has that Cane heart

Honestly, if he wants to play in the NFL he should be working on returning kicks and punts. That’s his way onto a roster. Little guys who don’t return kicks don’t really play in the NFL. He’s made the jump to being a capable receiver. It there’s nothing particularly special about his game.

I am not sure he gets drafted due to lack of size and real speed/quickness for a guy his size. I wouldn’t mind him returning and mentoring the younger players but I would expect him to be beaten out for PT at some point.
He doesn't get beaten out, he's talented enough to retain his job. Pope is beginning to figure it out as well. Wiggins and Payton most likely get passed up by the 2020/2021 WR class.

Didn’t NCAA say this year doesn’t count against eligibility?

Harley is a great candidate to return for year 5

I'd love to see him come back, especially after the way he played the latter half of the season.

I doubt he gets drafted this year. He would need to get a little bigger and stronger. Additionally he would need more tape showing he can be consistent as a pass catcher and is in the fight more for contested balls.

He hasn't added weight like that 4 years into the program and you think he going to magically add 20 pounds as a senior? NO!

When they look at his tape there's gonna be 85% drops and bonehead plays and 15% of competence. He needs to come back and be the man for a year and put together a thousand yard season.
And don’t forget about the” just going thru the motions “ quote. The only player to get away with sowing that was Clowney

7th or UFA. ... Harley's been our best receiver this year. But I want to move on from him. I truly believe we'll have addition by subtraction in this case. I will root for him in the NFL, though. He seems like a great kid and true Cane.
I've kinda gone back and forth on this. Part of me wants a veteran guy in the group so u know what ur getting but then the other part sees the 3 guys they just signed plus redding smith and restrepo and wants to move on from all 3 upperclassmen

If he played the way he has the last half of the season for his whole time here, he might have a chance. Otherwise, if he sees a future in the NFL, he'll be back.

He's small, but y'all are overrating that aspect of the discussion. KJ Hamler was drafted in the 2nd Round. Scottie Miller was a 6th Rounder. Andy Isabella was a 2nd Rounder. Olamide Zaccheaus was undrafted, but made the 53 right out of camp. Not even touching on guys like Hollywood Brown, etc. This is just in the past two draft classes. There are plenty of other examples.

Before you all say "bUt JeFf Th0mAs!" ... he's better than Jeff Thomas. He's been better than Jeff Thomas for a few years now. y'all with this talking point need to chill.

I think a good point that was made here...he needs to learn to return kicks if he's going to be a guy the league finds value in.

I'm not saying he WILL get drafted, but he is a draftable player.

I hope he stays.

I've posted before...he was a legitimate breakout with over 20% marketshare in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. That is a draftable player. Late af, but draftable, especially if he tests well.

But I hope he stays. He could be a 1000/10 type of guy with one last year.
I don't think he is draftable because I don't think he does anything good enough to play at the next level. But I defer to your evals, especially pertaining to the draft.

That said, there is definitely a role for him in this offense next year, especially if King comes back. Even if the young guys step up and cut into his marketshare, he clearly understands the offense (and offense in general), has good enough straight-line speed to break a few long ones when Lashlee schemes them up for him, (as I always say) is an excellent blocker at the WR position, and is a positive influence in the locker room.

I will take a guy like that every time, especially when you know its only one more season.
