Hardest Hitting Cane...What Say You??

I was waiting to see if anyone was going to mention Bennie Blades, finally someone got there on page 4 of the thread!

So many greats it is hard to choose from ST is an obvious one along with Ray Lewis but Bennie Blades started the ruthless DB legend in my mind, ST just built on it, to mythical proportions even though it was actually happening. I sat in the rain in Tally when there were ST's all over the field, the man will always be a legend!!!

Love Steve’s comment the next day implying his team got its butt whipped.

Actually.....Fred Marion started the ruthless Safety Mantra at UM.....He was a 1st Team AA in 1981...and a Veryyyy underrated player...also had an excellent NFL career...much better than Bennies...

Loved the Jamaican heat seeking missile.

Awesome video , a FIRE burns in RM and is intensified he is a Minnie me of Ray Lewis .

When RL first came to the U he only had the clothes on his back RM took RL in fed and clothed him .

ROHAN PASSION DEFINED .

Has anyone mentioned Ed Reed?
Ed could lay a lick.....But the Hits Nate put on people from 98-2000 still make me Shake my Head....Crazy thing is...his Intensity in Practices...were every bit as Savage as the Game itself.....Absolutely NO F's given....

Nate Webster...

His high school tape was vicious( I still have the Canesport 1995 recruiting video on VHS, lol), One of the best splash reels out of all the video's I have ever seen.

Another underrated hitter that hasn't been mentioned was a personal favorite of mine - Darryl Williams. He was sleek, fast safety but he could lay the wood. I still remember that stick on Kez McCovery in Wide Right I on a slant. Still cant believe he held onto it. But yeah, ol' 31 was a really great player at the U

The kick coverage unit of: ST, Carl Walker, Jerrell Weaver, Buck Ortega, Kellen Winslow Jr, and Antrel Rolle used to murder people.

Bosher used to try to lay returnmen as well.
Bosher was the best kicker/punter coverage guy i have ever seen. He saved countless touchdowns! Numerous!

I would call them from the armchair QB position. I was embarrassed for the rest of the coverage unit because he made them all look bad.

He ended up getting paid for it though.

Probably the greatest battle between two players occurred in National Championship Canes vs Cornhuskers , very little known battle physical hand to hand of this unheralded EPIC battle.

Canes Nose tackle Tony Fitzpatrick 5’10 220 pounds vs Dave Remington 6’3 330 Outland trophy winner.

Anybody here at least acknowledge this battle occurred ?

I'm friends with Tony...spoke to him a couple of days ago....spoke to him many times about the game....That Nebraska O-Line was and still is the Most Decorated in NCAA History.....Olividatti's 3-4 Base...turned into alot of 5-2....Tony told me it was called "Monster".....

Whay no one understands is when it comes to us at that time when it came to the practice field we literally hated the opposing side of the ball. Nate tried to murder people on a daily out there. Little as he was, dudes were scared to make eye contact with nate. I just read the entire thread cause i was curious if anyone would get these other two boys. For me this is relatively easy but its a top 3 with all of em tied for first. 1A nate then 1B & 1C is two dudes onion destroyed there careers. 1B WILLIE WILLIAMS 1C ARTHUR BROWN dudes all epitomized what it is to hate HATE the ball carrier. Next 2 would be blades & st26 with burgess not far behind.

Dee.....I tried telling them about Nate.....I know what I heard and saw with my own two eyes....SAVAGE....and I agree 100% with what Shannon did with Willie.....Dee,...thats why earlier in the thread I mentioned what Butch could've done with him.....I might be going out on a ledge...but I truly believe Butch could've and would've made Willie a BEAST.....

Again I repeat....Never in all my yrs watching Canes FB....Both practice and Games...have I seen ANYONE bring the Wood on a DAILY basis like Nate.....Nobody.....When a slew of Good too Great RBs at the University of Miami...are literally Scared to hit a hole during practice...that tells me all I need to know....and I'm talking laying the BOOM to Future NFL stars......

Bennie Blades was beast. He would get arrested today’s game. ST was super attelete but for pure pain delivered I think Blades might have carried more lumber to the impact. But like so many “greatest” questions about Canes, there are just so many. I’m going with the kickoff of the famous Cotton Bowl game —- did that poor Lonrhorn ever get up?
Yeah he got up for 3 seconds..fell out again on way to sidelines..

I know we didn't win a title that day, but I loved that game. Never was the hate so evident and never did we rub everyone's face in it so spectacularly. They could have called 1000 yards in penalties and we still would have won.
