if the evil midget had not shown up with her Barry Alvarez fantasy, there is no telling how many NCs Butch and Miami could have won. I can
count on one hand the coaches that could even have come close to the miracle job Butch did in the 90s at Miami under the
sanctions that were meant to kill Miami football. JJ had great love and respect for Butch. Awesome that you had that talk with JJ !

Also in 1998 I met Bobby Bowden at a Circle K on Appalachee Pkwy...and I approached him (UM Hat on) and introduced myself (He was putting peanuts in an RC Cola...evidently a Southern thing) and we talked for atleast 10mins...I told him I had a family member on staff, and this was shortly after they beat us...but the game was much closer than the score (I remember Tana dropping a long pass for a sure TD) but he told me he could see a major change from the previous yr in ref to depth and talent. Like JJ, he also said UM was in good hands with Butch. He couldn't have been more cordial. A week or two later we upset UCLA, which ironically sent FSU to the NC against Tennessee.

Butch did a great job recruiting and developing and building the culture. And obviously you can point out all the talented guys on the team, but at the time, they weren't the biggest recruits and the five-star guys. A lot of what we did, Butch should get credit for. It was a competitive culture and accountability was huge and he built a family environment.

So we all know that we're 2-2 on the season. There has been a lot of criticism that we hired an inexperienced coach who needed to learn at a G5 school before taking this big of a step. We have a G5 school with a coach who has experience as both a college and NFL head coach just a few minutes...
