Gus Edwards

What a fahgoat.

Gus looks like he has taken some pointers from Duke... Effective stiff arm on his first carry!

That's the most hilarious post I've ever read. I thought it was sarcasm 50 percent of the way through then I realized he was being serious lololol

he looked good vs ark state , he needs to do this next week vs nebraska to have me sold

OL needs to block for any back to be successful. Maybe it just took the staff a while to figure out that Gus is not a straight ahead runner notwithstanding his size.

Still a big back with decent speed that runs high. Guys like that are good change of pace guys or 'get them in space' players.

But, without being shifty, having great vision, or having an extra gear (like Darren Mcfadden did), as a starter he'd take quite a few TFL.

Close. Been a die hard since the fam moved to Orlando. in 84. But yeah, I do live north of Miami but south of the Dakotas.

And no...I won't ever defend my fan-dom to another Cane fan again. I've got more Cane related stories than the high school I attended.

No hard feelings bro. Chill. We all want W's.

Still not fully qualified to call yourself a full fan. Can you discuss, for example, Chick's father's team back around '81? I won't even ask you about his grandfather. Have you read any of the authoritative texts on Hurricane football, like Jim Martz's classic history on Hurricanes football. Who can you name from our first NC team in '83? Can you name all the Hurricanes in the College Football HOF? (Watch out, trick, very trick, question.)

At best, you're a junior, or novice, Canes fan. Starting in '84, just doesn't cut it. Being a real Canes fan involves many hours of study, watching old games (try YouTube, I just saw the '88 Michigan game on there the other night. (We also had trouble with an athletic QB in that game. What was his name? Who came in to substitute for him and threw a TD pass against us. What south Florida HS did that substitute QB attend?

These are the things you gotta know. It's not enough to just say you're a fan, you have to pay your dues. It's more than just watching a game, or even going to one. It's putting in the work, the hours of study.

Happened to notice that YouTube now has the game when we actually lost to FAMU. Quick, alleged Canes fan, what year was that?

Don't mean to insult you, but I'm trying to emphasize to the younger ones that there is a heavy price, a lot of sacrifice, involved in being a true, fully qualified Canes fan.

It helps to keep things in perspective. Like when people complain about our defense against Arkansas State, I can remember other games where our very best teams gave up too much yardage and too many points to inferior opponents. We still won and ended up with great seasons. Not saying it will happen this year, but I've seen so much of this before. Until he won his first NC, fans were complaining iutncessantly about JJ. Now, he's a legend. Of course most people here don't remember him well enough, so instead they see Butch as the greatest ever. Now, he did do a good job in putting together a good team, but I recall when everybody was calling him "Bush" and "Botch" and his OC was "Choker" and his DC was "Monkey Boy"My friends who used to go the non-televised games--I live up north so I couldn't go to all the games--and they would complain about how disorganized Butch's sidelines were. Looked like Chinese Fire Drills. (No offense if we have any Asian fans.)

Get over yourself bra

Remember when Greg Jones from FSU ran all over us one year because he wasn't being touched until 2 yards past the LOS? Well the next year, we hit him in the backfield before he could get going and the outcome was totally different. That's kind of how I see Gus - he's getting hit in the backfield a lot because the OL can't block for crap. Once he gets going, he looks pretty good. No back looks good when they're getting hit as soon as they get the ball....
