Can someone explain the mix of carries tonight. If Gus is going to be used and carries the ball like he did today, how do you have him take 2 of the 35 carries. This staff is weird.

Looked great. He needs a head of steam to get going, that's why people call him soft. If you hit him behind the line he's not effective but I have always liked him. Part of me wants him at lb though

We have no idea how he will run from week to week. He performed well with his opportunities today against an overmatched opponent. Let's wait to crown him.

The bigger issue is the at best, inconsistent run blocking and getting Duke in zero rhythm.

He is the kind of back that needs ahead of steam. You get him running down hill with some good blocking he is very successful.

Sure man. OK.

You are the classic example of why we have the worst fans in the country. I guarantee you aren't even really a fan. You have probably never been to a game, don't now where campus is, and live in North Dakota or some other bum **** place.

In his defense seems like the line never blocks for him. Usually he only comes in on short yardage and the line gets blowed up and he gets taken down for a lose. We try to use him as a power back but that is not what he is. He is more of all around back.

^ This. Our staff seems **** bent on shoe horning him into the "short yardage back" role but that really does not suit his running style. He's actually more difficult to tackle in open space once he gets moving. But if you hit him in the backfield he goes down pretty easily.

Close. Been a die hard since the fam moved to Orlando. in 84. But yeah, I do live north of Miami but south of the Dakotas.

And no...I won't ever defend my fan-dom to another Cane fan again. I've got more Cane related stories than the high school I attended.

No hard feelings bro. Chill. We all want W's.

Yep, I was just about to say this.

He's been lethal in open space this year - big, strong, fast player with surprising agility. He's a handful if he breaks through the line.

If we had a good Oline and called sensible plays he'd be much more highly thought of on here.

He played well today but IMO and not to knock the kid, but didn't we see this last year against FAMU.

Duke was grinding hard on that drive. He came in to give Duke a breather. Made a great play with fresh legs. Good job for the kid.

Still not fully qualified to call yourself a full fan. Can you discuss, for example, Chick's father's team back around '81? I won't even ask you about his grandfather. Have you read any of the authoritative texts on Hurricane football, like Jim Martz's classic history on Hurricanes football. Who can you name from our first NC team in '83? Can you name all the Hurricanes in the College Football HOF? (Watch out, trick, very trick, question.)

At best, you're a junior, or novice, Canes fan. Starting in '84, just doesn't cut it. Being a real Canes fan involves many hours of study, watching old games (try YouTube, I just saw the '88 Michigan game on there the other night. (We also had trouble with an athletic QB in that game. What was his name? Who came in to substitute for him and threw a TD pass against us. What south Florida HS did that substitute QB attend?

These are the things you gotta know. It's not enough to just say you're a fan, you have to pay your dues. It's more than just watching a game, or even going to one. It's putting in the work, the hours of study.

Happened to notice that YouTube now has the game when we actually lost to FAMU. Quick, alleged Canes fan, what year was that?

Don't mean to insult you, but I'm trying to emphasize to the younger ones that there is a heavy price, a lot of sacrifice, involved in being a true, fully qualified Canes fan.

It helps to keep things in perspective. Like when people complain about our defense against Arkansas State, I can remember other games where our very best teams gave up too much yardage and too many points to inferior opponents. We still won and ended up with great seasons. Not saying it will happen this year, but I've seen so much of this before. Until he won his first NC, fans were complaining iutncessantly about JJ. Now, he's a legend. Of course most people here don't remember him well enough, so instead they see Butch as the greatest ever. Now, he did do a good job in putting together a good team, but I recall when everybody was calling him "Bush" and "Botch" and his OC was "Choker" and his DC was "Monkey Boy"My friends who used to go the non-televised games--I live up north so I couldn't go to all the games--and they would complain about how disorganized Butch's sidelines were. Looked like Chinese Fire Drills. (No offense if we have any Asian fans.)

No offense, but that might be the biggest superfan post I've ever read. You put qualifiers, such as having to read or watch YouTube (what did people do before that....were they real fans?) to be a true fan? Again, no offense, but it sounds like you need more things to do in your spare time. The post reminded me of a comedy movie about a Chicago Cubs fan who was completely over the top.

As for Gus, he did a good job today, but that TD doesn't happen against a quality opponent. You can't fault him for the competition, but I'm not crowning him either.
