17 carries 115 yds 1 TD 17 yds longest run

I had to look twice to make sure I read that stat line correctly.

Who would've thought that he would stick with an NFL team? Never really used his size or speed in the 3 seasons he played at The U

He wasn't used enough or effectively.

The problem was/is with most fans is that they are in love with smaller flashier backs with that SF speed.

I was one that saw his potential and thought he should have played more. He only played in predictable short yardage plays with terrible blocking. Never given enough reps to get into a rhythm. IMO, I said at the time, he should have played over Yearby because we already had smaller backs doing what Yearby did. Could have had a true thunder and lightning. Great for Gus!!! Still a Cane!!!

Not sure I agree with that. Gus ran strong as an RB much like Cager catches tall. I always liked the guy, but he ran soft as **** at Miami.

I thought he was always the best RB on the roster when he was here. Golden just loved his small scat backs.

Yearby had great vision. It would frustrate me to watch Walton always follow his blockers his Freshman year and he would never cut-back to find a hole. Yearby was great at that and the little hop to change direction. Walton in his Sophmore & Junior years was much more creative and if there was hole to run thru following his blockers, he'd cut- back and try and create something

I don't think he got enough touches to make that determination. Like I said, he was used in mostly predictable situations. I'm just glad he's doing well and still considers himself a Cane as shown in his team photo where all the players wore their college t-shirts.

Agree for sure. Like I said, I always liked Gus. And I loved that he rocked The U gear in that photo! I wish him all the best. Always felt he had a ton of potential. It was a shame we never got to see it in Orange and Green.

No knock on Yearby. He was a very good college player. I just thought Gus had something to offer that we didn't have on the roster. I think he got a bad rap with fans. When your a bigger back, it's harder to get going when defenders are in the backfield. Small backs can make that first guy in the backfield miss. It would be funny if he winds up having the best pro career of the backs that were here during his time. Don't get me wrong. I want them all to succeed.

Funny thing is, I think Trayon Gray could find himself in a similar situation. He was a late bloomer. We don't run the type of offense that could feature him. However, with 32 NFL teams he could find himself a home with his unique size and speed. You just don't see guys at 240 with Choc's speed anywhere. He would be an elite special teams player in the NFL at 240 running a 4.5 40. I hope he gets a chance. I could see choc on teams like Pittsburgh or New England where they really no how to get the most out of a running backs talent.

Your right..big backs do need a rythym. I also thought he should’ve played a lot more here. But you had yearby who good In his own right. Just a crowded backfield
