2027 Gus Corsair 4* IOL from Hays, KS (Hays HS) Commits to Oregon

Yall know we signed 2 Centers last class… also if SJ is ever expected to play here, it can ONLY be at Center imo. So if next yr he is the guy at center, not getting one this class is fine. If he doesn’t I expect us to go portal Center shopping again, which is fine. Still wonder if Buchanan would ever go to Center…

idk to me if we get Jatori Williams to pair with Sean Tatum, this Interior OL class is a massive Win. Especially when you look at it like a 2yr haul from last class + this class. Also I’m really just not worried about going portal for Center. I’d bet it’s one of cheaper portal starter adds you can make. Pure OT builds is where the entirety of the remaining OL recruiting focus needs to be

So at OT obviously we want Mathews. It appears the vibe is Olu isn’t worth the money that he’d receive/deserve vs the expected output FOR US early, so maybe we fully pivot BACK to Sam-Epelle if we miss on Mathews. Who will likely be cheaper but has that massive body type and athleticism but is that similar 2yr development.

But no question we need like 2-3 pure OT Developmental guys. If we don’t land Mathews I will say we are putting a LOT of stock in either A) Okunlola returns and moves to RT which is Very interesting to me or B) Meriweather/Hawks/Wilkerson or even Congdon/Ervin earn that job…which idk next yr I think it’s reasonable to expect one of those 6 players to step up at RT after McCoy. I’m really not worried about OG here tbh. OT+Center is always really the question. But again Center maybe one of cheapest starter portal adds you can make on the entire roster! Completely different than OT…

And 2 from last class like I just posted.

Idk center recruit never really seemed like a big deal to me this class. And if we get Jatori+Tatum that’s a great iOL haul. And the 2yr iOL haul will have been great imo. I’m simply never really worried about Guard here. And I think portal center is a cheap option.

Another 1-2 pure OT body types is what we need to focus on if we get Jatori

Buchanon has also been rumored to potentially play center if needed.

Actually rumored, or just constantly by me saying he needs/should receive reps there?

SJ shouldn’t be allowed to take a snap on OL in practice that isn’t center./snapping
I know you've mentioned it before, but Ariz and others who have attended practices have stated as well. Ideally, I think they'd like to keep him at OG but if they need him at C then you secure the anchor of your line

The thing is it’s easily arguable that Guard is the deepest/easiest position to fill on the Oline.

like Meriweather should be expected to be able to start at Guard if needed. There was talk about Minaya having been potentially taking the next step last yr. Obviously Congdon seems like he will get reps and I wonder if he’s too bulky (too slow) for OT now. And Ervin may be a guard as well. And long term we also have Pickett who will redshirt this yr.

So if the intention is the best starting 5, and we know Cantwell, Okunlola, McCoy, and Buchanan are 4 of the starters… well is Rodriguez/SJ at Center vs Congdon/Meriweather at Guard (or even RT and pushing Buchanan to C and and McCoy to RG!) better? …

Obviously I think we are starting season with Cantwell / Okunlola / Rodriguez / Buchanan / McCoy

No disagreement from me at all.

The same guys who built one of the best OL in the nation for each of the last 3 years should be trusted to not just get the best 5 out there but to have acquired the necessary talent to do so

OR, maybe the kid just wanted to go to a different school. Crazy thought, but not every kid wants to go to Miami.
You might be right and hopefully you are but I might be right about Miami thinking if we are even or just below NIL wise we will win these battles. Miami is losing a bunch of battles and I hope we go on a run soon.

Could be, but isn’t it the staff’s job to figure out during the recruiting process who does/doesn’t want to go to Miami? Seems like they’ve been really off on that question this cycle. How many guys have we heard they feel good about only to miss out?

I don't entirely disagree, but some people act on here like every kid should want to play at Miami because they want to play at Miami, and that is just not reasonable.

Im 100 percent cool with skipping center this class and landing jatori williams and a possible local ol that blossoms.

We can go back to portaling a center and im all for it. lol

*Im saying this because we landed two in last class who dont have outside ability so you should be able to coach up one of them to be a center after a shirt.
