Gunter practicing with 1st team at Packers camp

You guys kill me sometimes.

Yall really think our coaches don't do anything.

They do a pretty decent job of teaching technique. Golden is a stickler for details. It's asinine to imply that our players are benefiting from a couple weeks of "real" coaching and that's why they get a couple solid reviews. Just silly. No coach can improve a player's habits that quickly.

It's 100% that some of our coaches teach proper technique yet our team still sucks.
I'm not being a smartass--I'm really asking honestly here...if it's not technique, if it's not scheme, if we have players capable of making rosters and thriving in the NFL...then what's the problem, as you see it?

Firstly, making a roster and thriving in the NFL are two different things. The problem Miami has had for, well, ever is the lack of a great QB.
Kaaya could be that guy, the college game is all about the QB. Multiple programs have come out of nowhere to be very, very good due to one player. This is not to say the others don't have significant impact, but a great QB in college can make a program.
Manziel, Tebow, Winston, Bridgewater, RGIII all those guys changed their respective programs. I'd challenge anyone to name two great programs that don't or didn't have great QB's recently.
Miami has never been great without a great QB. I don't need to name them.

I don't think you addressed the question. That poster wants to know why we are not more successful. You limit the problem to one position.

QBs can be incredibly important in the college game, but they are not the only key. You named 5 guys that "made a program". I'm not sure that is accurate. In the case of RGIII I don't believe that was the case, even though he was tremendous. That offense has done great passing things, period. Florida won championships before Tebow (and Meyer). Same thing with FSU and Winston (and look at some of the championship FSU QBs).

As to your final question, depending on how you define "great" (a term I use very carefully), Alabama and LSU are recent champs, and regular players on the title scene, without great QBs.

Alabama and Notre Dame

No way. Golden ruined his career. He can't be doing well in camp.

Nope, Golden only ruins careers of high talent guys. Gunter is his type of defender -- size, not so fast, reads before reacts, steady. Ed Reed would never see field under Golden, but 11 Gunters could. The problem with Al, like there is only one, is that he is at Miami and doesn't have any idea what to do with talent, speed and instinct.

you slurpers KILL me. "See, Golden does teach." "See, Williams is not that bad of DB coach." FOH. If anything, this should be another indictment on our coaching staff. If anything, this shows yet another reason why we shouldn't have been 6-7. Golden has cost these kids millions. Gunter has freakish size at the DB position. He made headways at the SENIOR BOWL, not at Miami. Chick showed out at the SENIOR BOWL, not Miami. Don't credit Gunter's talents from Golden. I'm sure if he played at Bama, he would've been a top 3 round pick.

The bottom line is as soon as guys leave the environment of Gorlden and Dorito they all of a sudden become better. The list is extensive.

How the f**k does that happen?

WTH is your point? Manziel, Tebow and RG3 are heisman winners, but nfl busts. OSU just won the the NC with a 3rd string qb.

Our schemes suck and we do a poor job of utilizing our athlete's skill-sets.

I know for a fact that we teach proper technique though.

The ol 2 weeks of "real" coaching made him a stud. A classic.

LOL. Seriously.

You people are nuts if you think our DB's are taught good technique.. Just because Golden is a stickler when it comes to details means nothing when the details he teaches are bad details.. Our fundamentals with almost everything are below average compared to other teams..

Difference between you and I is...

I've seen our coaches work. I've watched them practice. Technique is not the issue.

Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure one of the reviews of Gunter at the senior bowl was that he had good technique.

My point is each of those guys took an entire team on their back and made them great, hence my opinion is you have to have a very good QB to be really successful. And the fact the OSU's QB is third string is irrelevant, they're obviously loaded at the position.
