Yeah, not the same as Phil Knight or Cody Campbell also serving as primary providers for their schools’ NIL/slush funds

This departure is difficult to come back from.
 
All of the personalities are getting pushed out or died.

Lots of “ceo” types as coaches that watch everything they say and their players say.

Who is left that speaks their minds and aren’t idiots?

OK ST did not & does not have anywhere near the resources of their counterparts in the Big XII & regionally in Oklahoma/Texas. He went 170-90 (65%) with a 12-6 Bowl record.

OK ST was never viewed as a viable contending program until he got there, he set that standard for them to even be expected as a winning program.

Won the most games in school history & put together the best season they had ever had in the modern era.

It fizzled out & they couldn't keep up as the money flood came into CFB, but to act like he wasn't a good Coach based on the last 2 seasons isn't an accurate assessment of his body of work.

He did more with less than the majority of Coaches that get high praise.

Very few could win in a situation like OK ST.

Spot on.
The few coaches that won anything at that school either got placed on heavy probation or left school ASAP. Gundy actually turned what has traditionally been a coaching graveyard into a serious program. For awhile at least, but over time it became harder for him to acquire talent. Especially when other Texas schools started keeping their in-state kids. Schools like Baylor, SMU, TCU, and Houston recruiting up a notch affected Okie State. What little I've recently observed from OkSt were severely under talented squads. Slow, small and unathletic. No coach can win under those circumstances. Always remember, when a college FB team(s) rises, it is at the expense of successful nearby team(s).
