GT game in 2017

Q3 is wrapping up and we’re trailing at home. I vaguely remember a lot of **** poor mistakes coming out of the half. It was a complete deluge onto the field, and the stands got a fair bit of moisture from a strong wind that just started blowing through the stadium.

And it started what was the most palpable vibe shift I’ve maybe ever felt in a live setting, and it felt like everyone else felt it at the same time too. No idea why or how, but the rain heralded a complete 180 in momentum and performance on our side and we pulled it out to win the game.

Curious who else was there and if I’m retroactively hallucinating with hindsight bias or not.

This was the last UM game I attended.

I remember watching pregame warmups & GT's defense looked like Doral Academy. They were just so tiny & unimpressive. That amusement turned into outright anger when Richt corched it the **** up on offense & the defense had Taquon Marshall looking like Tommie Frazier.

Then the downpour started/stopped, and GT ran out of gas. Georgia Tech lost that game more than we won.
 
Just went down a rabbit hole of 2017 highlights, noticeably the team looked way more happy and confident from the very beginning. The offense, while pedestrian and lacking, got things out much quicker and with more confidence/purpose. That team was well coached and just looking at 2022 comparatively is barf inducing.

Richt still had a good feel for attacking what they were giving, while last year it look like we were just throwing **** at the wall. That team was missing a few pieces and could have been really great.

I was there and I remember this exact shift. It was so strong I felt it was a programming changing even and that the U was only going to rise from there. Spoiler alert: I was wrong
 
This game stands out to me for the exact same reason. The week after FSU. It got LOUD with the downpour, for the players it just became playing at the park in the summer
 
I was there and yes we played like garbage for nearly 3 full quarters. Then a monsoon began and the frustrated crowd basically forgot it was at a football game and started acting like it was after hours at Club Space. Somehow the team responded to this and it culminated in the improbable Langham 4th down catch and W. Weird yet fun game to attend. I was 10+ drinks in by halftime and Richt’s onside kick post half decision nearly had me double my previous 10 drinks consumed but we won so f*** it 🙌.

**** bro you missed out. I went to most home games that year, and after the atmosphere was great for all of them. ND was the most incredible in person experience I’ve ever seen. But the GT downpour was something that’s hard to describe without sounding loony.

Well i feel obligated to games where i know it wont be packed. I leave the FSU games and big games to the casuals. But i was at home feeling regrets about not going and VT was lit the week before as well

I was there and remember just standing there with my jaw on the floor after Langham made that catch on fourth down with the game on the line. I don’t think I even knew who he was at the time (I believe this game was before the fsu TD catch). Was a **** of a monsoon and the Canes fans who stuck it out were given quite a treat.

That 2017 season was full of some epic moments.

Don't know I you're busting balls, but I do.
That was the year we would give up 5 TD's in our last 6 3/4 games until our D finally wore down vs Nebraska in the fourth quarter in the Orange Bowl.

Watching that downpour from the outside.

Of note:
Statistically, that game wasn't even close.
It shouldn't have come down to the last drive.

The attendance for that game was actually decent, not a complete sell out, but I’m gonna guess around 50 or 55,000, a lot of the pictures you see are because that rain caused people in the lower levels to bunch up or go into to the covered areas.

If we can put a good product out, we can get very good attendance, even for the non-marquee games.

That whole season had really good attendance, even Bethune and Syracuse.

That’s a pretty good crowd for a game against GA tech @1pm with weather like that.

When I look back at that 2017 season w/o the emotions & adulations, & just focus on the reverberations that ensued for the next 5 seasons, it’s clear we had a lucky charms for breakfast that yr. vs. being a good team.

We needed improbable, miraculous comebacks to beat a 7-6 FSU team, and a 5-6 GT team, while struggling mightily against a 3-9 UNC team (thank God they fumbled while they were driving to steal a W late in the 4th).

It was a fun season where the ball bounced our way a lot, but once that milk spoiled against Pitt, well, here we r.

**** what a fun ride it was though until then. Goes to show how good it can be atmosphere wise if we put out just a decent product. We weren’t world beating anyone that year, except for it seemed like ND, and the attendance was pretty **** good throughout. And ofc the roof would have been blown off for that last game had it existed.

Yes it was a tremendous ride. The ND game atmosphere was a proverbial stars aligning moment. It’s y even though LS, SLS, & HRS home games have had nice sized attendance before, it’s never been that electric b/c:

1. It was a rematch from a game we should’ve won in 2016
2. ESPN Game Day was on campus
3. Prime Time, Night Game
4. ND first time in town since 1989
5. Top 10 matchup between both schools since 1990

Brother, this game could’ve been played at a random park in So Fla & I promise u it would’ve been lit. It’s also y I caution the fan base to stop bringing up this game regarding HRS’ atmosphere b/c this was thee absolute perfect crescendo that couldn’t be scripted any better if u tried. It’s also y, again, despite other games have nice, sizable attendances could never duplicate that moment again before or after. VT was loud, but ND was bonafide electric.

Nevertheless, I sincerely hope we get back that type of juice. That was a fun time; excruciating on the heart, but fun.

It was actually at 3:30pm. Like @OriginalCanesCanesCanes said, it was a good sized crowd. I have a video towards the end of the game when the rain slowed up and my area in the 300s was packed!
