Miami Southridge vs. Miami Palmetto

Southridge and Palmetto met up for a pivotal district match-up at Tropical Park Stadium. Neither offense really got in a rhythm all night. Marcus Fleming was the main weapon for Southridge and quite honestly was the best player on the field on Friday. With over 100 yards, a handful of catches and a game breaking 90 yard TD, Fleming was certainly my player of the game. DB Tyrique Stevenson was lined up at corner all night following around Palmetto WR Poitier. Poitier got loose a couple of times, but Stevenson was physical with him all night. He did a pretty good job of shutting down Palmetto's top receiving option. RB/WR Brashard Smith was Palmetto's most effective weapon all night on offense. He scored the only offensive TD for Palmetto. The other TD came from Freshman WR/DB Mike Jackson on a kickoff return. Jackson is a serious problem in the open field and will be a name to remember in the years to come. Cornelius Nunn Jr. was making plays on defense, the return game and added a couple catches, but he took a big time hit going across the middle in the 3rd quarter. He was put in concussion protocol and did not return to the game. Nunn was extremely emotional on the sideline, as he was begging coaches and trainers to let him back on the field. Palmetto QB Rackley was also put into concussion protocol from a hit he took late in the 3rd quarter. The Palmetto offense really began to sputter without Rackley and Nunn. Southridge scored back to back defensive TD's on fumble returns due to a couple botched QB-center exchanges late in the 4th quarter. Southridge stole a district win on the road with the final score of 26-17.
