Newest addition to the baseball board, maybe have him put out his stuff like how Tengwell does his videos?
Good riddance— that rag (like so many others) has reached the end of the line….
Greg Cote is one of the good ones.
He should just go into substack like Dave Hyde did— never had a beef with him, but that is a miserable newspaper all around
The issue is the way we consume media has changed as well (I would argue for the worse). People don't freaking read anymore. They want to see a video snippet that is in a clickbait-y entertaining influencer style format with an AI thumbnail to draw the eye and garner the click. If you tell someone that there's a really nice article on an important issue that a journalist thoroughly researched and vetted, but it's going to take them at least 5 minutes to read through, they'll go find a video recap or toss it into an LLM engine to get a recap...but lose the experience and neural pathway formations that come from *actually reading the source material* for themselves. The new model is that actual press goes independent on substack and some of the very best can make their own platform like Pablo Torre or Drop Site. The newspaper model is long dead. They are too late to the punch, and the ratio of useful news to day old junk is 1:100. When you can’t break consistent real news, your business model isn’t news it’s social media. So you gotta be free and have an environment that keeps eyeballs, sort of like CIS.
If he was let go, then yes, he was still working there. He was still working there?
Every one makes this comment because it is, of course, very true. But I think we have lost a lot with the loss of traditional print media (I could care less whether it is printed or digital). The reason being that legacy media did more long range, long running stories that required investigative journalism. Remember the days of 3 or 4 part stories? Stories that were investigated for months and months.
We have some of that still with people like Pablo Torre and the work he did on the Clippers salary cap circumvention, but we have mostly lost investigative journalism in favor of headline journalism which reports the news but never looks below the surface.
Would a story like Watergate even be exposed anymore? Which company in new media has the resources AND the willingness to let journalists chase a story for months? I think we have lost as much or more than we have gained.
I mean I agree that reading is down, but I’m not sure that means the desire to consume news is down. Video news is popular, I mean politics podcasts are some of the most consumed. For presidential races the ability to be human and articulate your politics for multiple hours is one of the most impactful traits. To me, it seems that the availability of instant free news (quality or not) killed the papers, not the reading issue. Also when you tie social media algorithms and news (often political). It's freaking scary. We are becoming an illiterate country.

Most podcasts have just become sensationalized slop, imo. There are some decent ones out there, but most of the time it isn't actual journalism, it's "here's what I think and I have a microphone and an audience that likes to hear me speak loudly...so I must be right and you should listen to me" kind of stuff. It's not actually vetted, and you can't fact check sources from a podcast who's main sources are mainly "trust me bro". That's the issue I have with a lot of it, no matter what political or philosophical bent we're critiquing. Today's media leans hard on whoever can yell and gish-gallop the fastest/loudest over others that are legitimately trying to discuss facts. Journalism and debate culture are both sorely suffering from those kinds of approaches.I mean I agree that reading is down, but I’m not sure that means the desire to consume news is down. couple of years ago, when I was looking for better sports coverage I tried The Athletic and coverage is great if say you live in Atlanta. and follow the Canes or example.....Most podcasts have just become sensationalized slop, imo. At least with articles, I can read them, go do my own research and reading either during or after I read them, and check the veracity of their sources versus reality. Podcasts and live broadcasts are tougher to do that with, and unfortunately, most people just don't bother to do so.
I'll hop off my soapbox...lol...this is probably a discussion better meant for the Off-Topic boards instead of the football one.
Law dont go round here Canedog. Law dont go round hereDoc Holliday quicker
