Looking for those Canes plays in big games over the years that would have changed the game, but didn’t happen. Looking for plays that weren’t executed, not blown calls by the refs (Fiasco Bowl).

Speaking of the Fiasco Bowl, Parrish was inches from busting a punt return for a TD in our last possession in regulation. He gets one more block, and we most likely never hear the name Terry Porter.

Obscure one. 2014 against FSU. Berrios can’t hang on to a diving TD pass that would’ve given us a 30-10 lead at the half. He doesn’t, and we end up missing the FG. Second half was not pretty, but with a 20 point lead there’s a decent chance we hold on to win. Instead, it’s a devastating loss and Miami never recovers. We go in the tank, lose the remaining three games, including a pathetic bowl game effort against a dog South Carolina team, and Golden is a dead man walking going into the next season.

In the 2003 (2002 season) Fiesta Bowl :

What if Sean Taylor gets another block on the interception return he fumbled away to Maurice Clarett? Might’ve been 100-yard pick six. Or at least given Miami position at their own 40 or so.

What if McGhee doesn’t get hurt on the screen pass? This wasn’t a scoring play, but it took our best player and one of the best players in college football out of the game.

What if Roscoe Parish doesn’t fumbled the ball inside the Ohio State 10 yard line late in the game? Miami could’ve scored a TD on the drive and gone up 21-17.

What if Dorsey doesn’t just miss hitting a wide open Eric Winston for the tying touchdown on third and goal in overtime. Might’ve been second down. Winston makes that catch and Miami can tie the game 31-31 with a PAT, and then we get next possession at the Ohio State 25.

Cleveland Gary scores a TD versus ND in 1988. Canes win the game and ultimately win back to back to back National Championships. Second place is Vinny Testaverde hitting Michael Irvin on 4th down from the Penn State 5-yard line.....we know what really happened.

Hope I get these right without looking them up. Not saying either of these would’ve changed the outcome, but Phillip Dorsett dropping a bomb on the 1st drive of the ND game in Chicago. And Jeff Thomas (?) doing the same vs Clemson in the ACCCG.

Gotta hit those big plays in big games.

Also, Isiah Horton vs Cuse. Shoulda been in the playoffs last year.

OP you mentioned fspoo in 2014. With Braxton berrios. I think in 2016 he had a punt return where he got tripped up by the punter. Or am I misremembering

TrumpyCane thinks Rosier just completely missed him and made an awful throw

Not really a what if play but if there is about 2 mins left in the game vs Washington in 2000, Miami has back to back to back undefeated regular seasons, and back to back titles, imo.

1998 vs FSU

Jorge Gaitan onside opening kickoff had the crowd in a frenzy. Covington hit Moss on a post route for a wide open TD but Moss simply dropped it and the stadium deflated. FSU was the better team in 98 but we hung tough and the game may have gone differently if we hit that first play.

1979 lost to Florida A&M. 16-13. Never recovered. Fans immediately flew the plane the following home game: “From Champs to Chumps. Thanks Schnellenberger”.
Didn’t future MLB player Vince Coleman kick the winning field goal?
