Official Greatest Greentree All American Who Fizzled

my pick is Running Back Oscar Gonzalez from the 1969 team. he was recruited out of Miami High after coming over in the Freedom Flights. He had 1200 yards his senior year at Miami High and 14 touchdowns, impressive stats back then and now.

During Fall Camp, the legend Ed Pope wrote about him for the Miami News (later Herald) in his Friday column "Greentree, Green Tea and Green Fever". ****, even Jim Martz mentioned him on his WIOD (610AM) Miami Hurricanes spot Wednesdays at Noon. I remember reading and listening about Gonzalez and thinking Gonzalez might be the first Cuban comet, but he fizzled and sucked.

Does Seantrel Henderson fit the bill? He never had the career either in college or the NFL befitting (from what I can recall) the number 1 lineman in the country.

Agreed. A lot of posters are confusing Greentree AA that fizzled with highly rated and coveted, prized recruits that didnt live up to expectations.

Kyle Wright and Willie Williams were big time recruits that never lived up to the hype, but they were never Greentree AA’s. I’m sure there were positive practice reports of them, but I don’t remember reports of them just tearing up everybody on the practice field.

Elijah Lofton, Mark Pope, Jo Jo Trader are some recent examples of true Greentree AA’s that have not or did not meet those expectations
 
I kept getting Told Jon Ford was going to be a beast. He was a first of the bus type to be fair...

Think he was a 7th rounder and hung around in the league so its not like he was bad.

Good point.

By the time Randy Shannon was on his way out nobody believed any hype. Stellar practice reports meant nothing by game time.
 
Figatron??? Remember how Golden tried to sell him??? All camp we heard how dominate he was and then the season started...... and nothing.... and shortly after all the other nonsense followed..

it seems most people here to not understand what a Greentree All American is. It is someone who is hyped up (regardless of star rating) during camp(s) and never really produces during the season. Citizen by definition is not a Greentree AA.
 
Thompson a gotta take the cake. Every spring you heard about him and he never even saw the field, ever.
