Desmond Howard made a great point about coaching. He said the reason Harbaugh has been able to turn Michigan around so quickly is because of credibility. The minute he walked into the building he had instant credibility. He didn't have to try and sell the players on his "way" or his "system". He also assembled a great coaching staff, 8 of them have NFL experience. I know all the names being thrown around about Golden's replacement but the only one with instant credibility is Butch. Not that any of the other names won't end up being good coaches, who knows. If UM wants to get back to greatness and do it quickly, hire the guy that has instant credibility. Now, will the powers that be make it happen? Probably not.

So you're saying Mario Crystalballz doesn't have instant credibility ?

"Desmond Howard made a great point." Now, there's something you don't hear very often.

Credibility is a good start. It must be maintained by results. Otherwise it falls down like a house of cards.

Fraulden didn't start out with much credibility, but he had everyone's good wishes and good initial support. He maintained it with FAILURE.

Failure.webp

Butch is not best game day coach. However, he finds talent and maximizes what he has. He is the complete opposite of the clown in charge now. Golden would have lost 2-3 games with the 2001 team. Butch would have won 10 games at a minimum
with last years team.

Golden never even won the Mid American Conference at Temple, why would he have any credibility?

Great point by Desmond and OP.

That's a big reason why myself and so many others still believe that a Butch Davis, who is well past the prime of his career can have some immediate success back at UM. Butch would walk in and have all sorts of credibility within the program as well as all sorts of street cred with the south Florida high school coaches.

Quick fix is Butch, let him set up the program and then target a guy on the staff to take over the reigns when he leaves.
