"Gray Crow > Paxton Lynch" - Al Golden in 2012

We missed on Brissett in Al's first class, and he didn't have any QBs on the roster for the following season, except Morris and Ryan Williams. And Morris had to sit out the 2012 spring practice session.

We'd needed QBs on the roster ... So, they had to make a priority of signing QBs who could enter early in the 2012 class ... That's how Crow got the offer.

Stephen Morris, expected to contend for the Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback position, will miss spring practice after undergoing back surgery.

Spring practice begins at UM on Saturday morning.

A depth chart released by the university Wednesday lists Ryan Williams, a transfer from Memphis who redshirted last season, as the Hurricanes' No. 1 quarterback followed by freshman Gray Crow and Preston Dewey. Crow and Dewey enrolled at UM in January.

That makes it OK.

Of course, Lynch attended all of Folden's camps and was right there in his face, and he still chose Crow over him. It's not like Crow was a good physical specimen or a productive HS QB. He was neither. It's not like Folden took a 4 star big, strong-armed guy with excellent HS production over Lynch. He took a horrible physical specimen with awful HS production over him.

Seems like the coach quoted in OP's post was astonished that Folden opted for Crow over Lynch. So, it's not like everyone thought Crow was a better prospect. In fact, almost no one thought Crow was a good prospect including pretty much every fan on the internet.
 
Al Golden is not above offering someone strictly from an evaluation from his camp.
As a matter of fact A LOT of his misses have been kids that he offered strictly from evaluation from his camp.

But but Charlie Weiss offered Gray Crown when he was in 9th grade....
 
This article is focused only on the on-field performance. They are ignoring life wins, of which Crow has a lot more.

but some of ya'll herald Golden as one of the great recruiters in America. It's easy to evaluate a 4 - 5 star kid....but when you can evaluate the the 2-3 star kids (ala Butch Davis) then you are defined as a great recruiter and talent evaluator.

yep...lol....he wanteD to go to UF too, Golden didnt blow it with him..Golden missed out on Brissett cause Charlie Weiss promised him the starting job. Brissett's mom wanted him at UM but since he was promised a job and his buddies matt elam, and at the time Gerald Christian went there he followed.. he tried to come to UM when he transfered but Miami already had Morris and Ryan Williams ahead of him so he went to NC State.... I went to a few Basketball games cause Brissett played both Sports and saw Golden and Fisch there...

Thurston Armbrister, Courtel Jenkins, Nick Linder, Herb Waters, Ladarius Gunter, Clive Walford were all 3 star and below kids recruited by Golden that have had decent careers so far or have made it to the NFL.... Golden is a great Recruiter, just needs to translate on the field

he was a JAG at best, but Charlie Weiss was recruiting him to Notre Dame and then to UF after he was fired from the Irish....point blank he had film, Lynch didnt

Walford was a Randy Shannon recruit. And why completely neglect some of the low-rated camp finds that were atrocious evaluations by Golden?

- D'Mauri Jones
- Gray Crow (staff liked him better than Lynch, as addressed in the 247 article)

Oh, and by the way, how on earth can you say Golden "just needs to translate on the field" after all this time? He's clearly incapable of doing that. That's been painfully obvious to everyone following this program for the last 2 years. But to say something like that as if it's still an open-ended discussion? Holy s***...

In fairness, Jimbo Fisher, Will Muschamp, Skip Holtz, and George O'Leary missed on him to. You can excuse the middle two because they weren't exactly hot stuff, but the other two missed too. I think it's just a case of a guy slipping through the cracks. USF should have taken him though. He would have jumped and not left had they done so.
