2026 Grant Wise - OL

Been thinking about today's developments for a bit.

Glass 7/8ths empty. Grant seems like a very tough recruit to flip once he makes up his mind.

Glass 1/8th full. He committed to an ACC school. So we know he's willing to play in the ACC. Prior to today, thought he was headed to the $EC. If he had committed to one of the $EC schools in his final five, suspect there would be 0% chance of a flip.

Unlike the Joel Ervin commitment, Mario isn't likely to give up on this recruitment and may 2x or 3x down.

Legacies: dad stays out of it and they go elsewhere or dad is highly involved and the kid hates our guts. Hilarious how we can't do right more often than not in these scenarios.
Naw more often than not it's always our legacy dads that "stay out of it" which is crazy enough. Hey we got Clinton portis son we know how much of a cane he is.

Hurts to lose Wise but can't blame the kid. Matt Luke is one of the best OL coaches in the game. Him, Mario and Mirable are top tier.

"I got to hang out with a bunch of the guys and I feel that I fit in with what they are looking for," said Wise to 247Sports. "I feel that I fit in with the culture of the program. Clemson knows how to win games."

Sometimes one can learn an awful lot of how someone feels about a person, team, or organization when they praise a competing person or entity.
Case in point our HC and some of our players when they praise their new DC.

For starters, it wouldn't hurt ourselves if we stopped losing games we were supposed to win. But I suspect this Wise kid was an uphill battle regardless of our ineptitude.

Wise was definitely a high priority. I think he just feels more comfortable in a Southern environment as a Panhandle kid.

His dad stayed out of the process and let him make his own decision.

Tough loss but Miret is a good local option and SJ will be a long-term guy.
For his dad to stay out of a decision or effort that will help his Alma mater win a 6th ring is irresponsible. Either Ty must not love his Alma mater or must not love Mario.

My wording was not perfect.
My point being the kid was actually clear why he picked the school in SC over UM. First reason that the other school is culturally more aligned to his Florida Panhandle background. Second being they win more than UM and play in bigger games, including playoffs and national championships. He said all of this in his comments above without taking a direct jab at his Dad's alma mater.
Mario can't do anything about the cultural differences between a small southern college town vs Miami, but perhaps winning more games can mitigate those challenges.
