Golden's job in jeopardy (IT BEGINS)

If we can't identify a young innovator, I'd call David Cutcliffe. I know it hasn't really been talked about here, but I think this would be a choice that satisfies all parties involved.

For what it's worth, Cutcliffe says he wants to coach at Duke until he retires. He really likes it there and wants to make Duke a legitimate football school.

Of course, that could all change with the right offer, but that's what I've heard.

It is also a safe gig without much pressure. The guy is turning 60 this year, he may want the safety until retirement.

I don't think he is the guy for Miami either.

of course Op would cite some BS website with no substance lol..

Butch whos been irrelevant for almost a decade now but you know circlejerk circlejerk

WHY NOT HOUSTON NUTT????????????????????

Uh, Butch's last year at NC, when more than a dozen of his players were suspended - due to no fault of his - had NINE drafted into the NFL. And STILL beat Golden's best performance, while missing lots of his starters.

Where you ragheads come from?

4-0 in bowl games at miami. One season of less than 9 wins when he was giving guys track schollys to play.

5 years prior to butch, UNC football record was

06'=3-9
05'=5-6
04'=6-6
03'=2-10
02'=3-9

That's 19 wins in 5 years.

in 4 years he was 28-23. he was 4-8 his first year and his fourth and last year he had half his team suspended and won 8 games. He never
coached a roster of only his guys there.

all these coaches yall are saying no thanks to are saying **** no right back except maybe cristobal, butch as dc HAH delusional.

I still think Donna stepping down bought Golden another year but that's just my opinion. Maybe the Board will grow a pair and intervene.

Schiano is garbage. Cristobal would be extremely underwhelming.

Butch is the best choice.

I don't think Chudzinski would be an awful hire either; former ties to UM, brings an offensive coaching dynamic to the table.

I agree for the most part but I am a little more on the fence with Schiano. I don't like the hire but I wouldn't freak out. Cristobal is the one that would absolutely incense me and I fear that's where we would look just because of our track record. It's way too good of a job right now to settle. I realize money is a factor but not that much.

I agree with everything you said.

The thing is, I feel any hire would be an upgrade. At a minimum, we won't be the least aggressive college football team in the nation.

Here is a post I had from a few days ago:

List (A) [Coaches with HC Experience]

1. Chud
2. Mark Hudspeth
3. Josh McDaniels
4. Lovie Smith (was interested in the USC job)
5. Jim McElwain
6. Raheem Morris

List (B) [Coaches with no HC Experience]

1. Rhett Lashlee
2. Justin Wilcox
3. Tom Herman
4. Nathaniel Hackett
5. Dan Quinn
6. Kyle Shanahan
7. Jake Spavital
8. Josh Heupel
9. Pep Hamilton

List (C) [Coaches to watch if our Admin doesn’t make the necessary move this year]

1. Kevin Wilson
2. Bob Diasco
3. Rod Carey

I hope very few on that list will be considered. Where did you get that from?

Butch made a huge mistake leaving for the NFL. He stays here and he's Bud Wilkinson/Rockne/Bryant rolled into one.

Say what you will of "Botch"... the guy drove me crazy too. But that dude had an outright eye for talent, could develop it, and knew where to use or convert players from one position to the next. Lest we forget how crafty & creative he was to sign players onto track scholarships, etc to max-out the roster when we were recovering from sanctions. (Rule was changed by NCAA once everyone figured out how he'd worked the system, but still impressive move on his part).

"I can recruit on a tank of gas" one of the best lines I ever heard.

I'd say Butch inherited almost as much of a mess as fat Al-- he didn't have the looming sanctions but he still had a tough road with probation and an empty cupboard. Give the man his due, he also resurrected the UNC program-- you can debate the shadiness, and goings on there, but that program got a lot better under his watch, shortcuts or not.

Even Schiano would be a major upgrade from Golden. At least we would have a proper defense and recruting will still be good.

One of Susan Miller Degnan's dead cats that she stuffed in a Ziploc bag in her freezer would be a major upgrade over Folden.

Nope he still has the fire assistants card to play not to mention the rest of the season. If Golden goes 10-3 or 11-3 things will be very different. I think even if UM goes 8-5 but makes it to the ACC title game he stays but some asst coaching changes will need to be made.

Go Canes

You need to stop sniffing baking soda...its clouding your judgement. You seriously posted a double digit win total? We lucky if we break .500

Schiano and Golden are both inflexible. Golden us much more likeable.
Schiano has proven to be mediocre at BOTH college and professional level

Schiano would kill it here. Miami's Defense will be back in the top 10, recruiting will be improved and the program will have a major buzz. Schiano will also bring better coordinators than we have now. That being said, I'd be extatic with Butch or Stoops.
