Reading through the posts, it seems that most people didn't hear explanation Golden offered at half time on WQAM at halftime. He said the play called was not a designed screen pass, but rather an adjustment made after seeing the defense on the field (there was only one DB on left side). I've read a lot of posts criticizing the play call as if it was called in the huddle.

I love the read but there obviously needs to be better execution, a moment of excitement from young qb. Ignoring the fact that UL had too many men on the field when the ball was snapped, with the defense that was out there a better throw would have lead to Stacey Coley walking in (granted he should have caught the ball or at least recovered it on the ground) instead of a ball that at best would have resulted in a loss.

The timid, safe play calling never allowed for Kaaya to get comfortable or the canes to take advantage of the moments to gain momentum. Once again under Coley's play calling we looked scared and inspired no confidence that this coaching staff has any clue of the hard nose, **** you attitude that Miami football was built on and brought the kind of talent here that resulted in championships. What is ****ing off fans isn't just the poor play or coaching but the demeanor that starts with coaching, which clearly affected the young qb. He looked timid and instead of running Clive or whoever across the middle more and trusting him to fit throws in a tight pocket, the play calling consisted of plays to eliminate risk especially on third down. It would be a shame to keep wasting the talent that has come through.

You can't throw out an 18 year old who has only been practicing for 2 months without showing faith in him and the offense to get it done. Instead we played soft, throwing predictable screens and safe runs between the tackles. I agree with most that most of the blame cannot be put on Kaaya, but it is insane to not put any of it on him. This screen play represented a lot of things last night, but namely our inability to take advantage of opportunities on offense to gain momentum. Hopefully coaching uses the game this weekend to try out all the plays and designs on offense that they were too scared to last night.
