so, 3 weeks ago, golden was "our coach", the obvious man for the job, he just gets it, the right man for the job, etc etc etc. whatever other adjectives and silly quotes we wanted to use to describe him. today, he sucks and will never get the job done here, we will be mediocre, he's a great pr guy, great at interviews, horrible game day coach, etc etc etc. and for the record, I have said very little and this far in, i'm less than pleased with our DC and probably on board w/ some type of change in scheme or coach being made.

is that about right? b/c there was almost no one on here except the 2 angry black guys who were upset about Shannon getting fired who didn't like golden.

So we're going to pretend now that people just started to criticize Golden? Like people weren't doing so when we sucked last year too?

Nothing changed in the last 3 weeks. It just solidified the doubts people already had about him.

nobody said golden sucked last year. very few said he sucked. the man hadn't been given a chance at that point. u can blame the defense for Saturday night, but, the turnovers that we gave and didn't get were more than enough to cost us the game.

Les Miles should be fired as well. Got embarrassed in the second half vs Bama, lost to a solid UGA team, and an Ole Miss team with far less talent and experience.

the extremes from 3 weeks ago to today are baffling. and i'd be the 1st to agree something or someone needs to change on defense.

I think it is beyond dispute that Golden excels at many facets of the head coaching gig. Be it recruiting, dealing with the media, marketing the program, or how he treats his players.....he has proven to be up to the task (and then some).

The issue is that a fatal flaw has been exposed. His scheme/approach on defense is garbage and it has failed us time and time again.
So the criticism has increased, and justly so.

We need a new defensive philosophy. That may or may not mean we need to replace Dorito. But it definitely means Golden has to change his mind about how a defense should operate. As we sit now, with this scheme, we'll never be a real contender, regardless of talent, schedule, luck, or any other variable you want to consider.

i would agree with the above statement. at the very least, we don't have the personnel yet to run this defense. I still think we have little depth and don't have the depth to hang w/ the elite, today. could this defense work in 2 years? possibly. but, as it stands, I can't stand it any more than the next guy.

calling for golden's head right now is a little ridiculous, though.

Most just want D'Onofrio fired.
When Texas gave up 550 yards rushing against BYU they all wanted the DC fired. He was fired and Texas hasn't lost since.

When you give up 550 yards to one of the worst offenses in the country... you deserve tons of criticism.

Good thing our schedule is so bad... these guys will win 8 or 9 games on that alone. BS

Golden knows a lot about the tradition of Miami. Its baffling he decides to implement this style of defense here. My take is Golden is gonna be stubborn and stick with No D is best buddy. He picks up for him every chance. Next year this time we will be here wondering how a new VT starting QB run shod over our D. Then Golden will have no choice but to can him. Hope I'm worng and he is canned as soon as season ends. Not counting on it.

texas has also had a top 5 recruiting class forever. they didnt inherit kelvin cain, jimmy gaines, etc.

I agree, we routinely make mediocre qbs look like 1st rounders. most mediocre qbs have career bests in completion and yards vs our defense.

Very ridiculous and irresponsible to be calling for his head.
With all the good things the man has done for this program, he deserve to be given time to correct his shortcoming, which obviously is our pathetic defense.

We have a hyper-reactionary and partly delusional fan base.

This board was not nearly as active when Miami was 5-0. Now that Miami is 7-2 the t-shirt fans have come out of the woodwork, manifesting their fury of not being able to puff their chests and predict a national title.

I don't remember this board being half as negative last year after a 7-5 season. Many called for patience, saw the big picture that this team was ~2 years away from being a legitimate BCS contender.

The problem is that it is a year later and we are still just as far away in the big picture. With the innate flaws in the defensive scheme, we've waste lots of time and made no real progress towards our goal.

Bull****. We're 7-2 this year. Last year's team would've lost to UF, Wake, GT and UNC as well. You'd be looking at 2-8, maybe 3-5.

No we wouldn't have. Last year's team scraped by with close victories against terrible teams too.

Only difference between this year and last is the cupcake schedule.

I still got mad love for Golden after sticking with us when he had every excuse needed to walk out the door, but he needs to make a Donald Trump type CEO move and fire his best friend and get us moving in the right direction on defense.

9-3 or 10-2 with the best players on the field predominately FR, SO, and JRs and a dearth of talent coming in at nearly every position aside from (at the moment) Safety and WR.

Let the rest of the season play out.
