A reporter told Golden that “the Arkansas State coach said you’re the biggest team that they’re going to face all year. I know that’s something you’ve strived to get to, to be the physical, dominating presence. Are you there yet?”

Replied the coach, “No, we’re not. You guys know.”

Golden noted with a laugh that media members “throw lines in the water all the time.’’

“We’ve just got to keep building,’’ he said. “Do I like our depth in certain positions? “Yeah, our safeties are rotating in freely right now; defensive line, we’re rotating more guys than we have been. But we’re not where we want to be yet in terms of size and strength at every position.’’

I don't read those as excuses. I see a man the was dealt a crappy hand just telling it like it is. The truth hurts sometimes, Roky.

We're going to keep building. We'll never be ready. Our current players aren't good enough.

**** this guy

fans need to realize we are that unranked team that teams want to play...

we are homecoming material...

Our players aren't yet fat and slow enough. We have a ways to go to reach B1G-10 levels of slowness and size.

Got not real problem with him saying this. Even Saban says stuff like this, even after winning the MNC.

The place was in shambles 4 years ago when he took over.

The only thing that can get built overnight is a house of cards.

Let's just see what he can do with the 6 years left on his contract.

"We aren't there yet" it's year four and "we aren't there yet"?! When the **** are we gonna be there?! What does this guy want another four years?! Will we be there then? Get this clown out of my sight.

Al is no different that any other coach with his quotes ... It's not "excuses" ... It's "coach-speak".

If we won more, people would get it.

Here are a couple of Nick Saban gems:

"If I was happy with them, we wouldn't have summer conditioning, we would not have fall camp, we wouldn't have 30 practices to get ready for our first game against Virginia Tech. We'd just pack it in and say, 'All right, let's go to Atlanta and play the game.' We're not there yet."

"I really do feel like we have a lot of the components to develop as a team," Saban said. "I don't think we are where we need to be. I think too many people (are) too comfortable with their position. That, to me, does not lend itself to great competition or being a great competitor.

"Your preparation, your ability to play with consistency, your ability to pay attention to detail, get the little things right, you don't inherit that. That's something you've got to earn."

Those could be taken from a Golden script. But because we don't win enough, people think he's making excuses. He's not ...

Now, he might not ever be the guy to lead the program back to prominence ... But folks should chill with the "he makes excuses, stuff". Beyond the "cloud" references, he steps up for blame. "It starts with me", or "I'm responsible". What else do y'all want him to say?

Our defensive scheme is the only one in college football that requires 5+ years to implement anything remotely resembling a defense.

SO, here's the question... lets say he thought they were where they wanted to be size and strength wise. Lets say they even beat Louisville...

Do you really think in coach speak, any coach speak, that they would actually say yeah, we good? Really?
