That's more in line with where my brain is. You want to run some grassroots deal and turn pedos over to the cops, have at it. Filming it and putting it on blast? Eh, not for me.

I’m with @BigDikDaddyFromCincinnati on this one. The professor is allegedly a very, very bad person. And if the evidence exists, he should be arrested and prosecuted. And if convicted he will likely receive a very lengthy prison sentence and sevice at least 85% of it under Georgia law, or if prosecuted federally. So he’s looking at 10-20 years and having to serve the vast majority of that in prison.

The problem is that it’s all alleged at this point. Let him have his due process and let the system run its course. Believe it or not, we have the best criminal justice system in the world. Not infallible, but better than any system that exists in any other country, or has ever existed.

I guess this is like the TV show COPS, or To Catch a Predator wherein the person is publicly exposed. But on those shows the alleged perpetrator is seen committing the act. Here it is on the word of the people exposing the act. I hope they are correct because if not, they have completely ruined someone’s life.

And to be clear, we are not defending the alleged actions of the professor. We are simply arguing in favor of Due Process.

So this was not an arrest. This was some grassroots group pulling a Chris Hansen according to this story:

The professor was confronted and accused him of chatting inappropriately with someone he believed was a teenage boy.

This has been corroborated (for lack of a better term) by other media. Now I'm confused. I get the entire "lock em up" mentality towards accused pedophiles. At the same time, we also have things in this country like due process, right to an attorney, Miranda Rights, etc. I'm no lawyer and I don't pretend to be one. I am confused because while I think pedos are gross, I also don't really like these entrapment tactics. I'm not condoning any behavior by either side. I'm genuinely confused by it all and I think it's all gross.

The due process explanation in the post above your reply is a better articulated explanation of what I was thinking. I don’t know the precise legalities of entrapment. At the same time I don’t like the way the Chris Hanson show made me feel - because of the peso actions and because of the tactics used by the show.
